Even thou i love the square body trucks i still like modern conveniences, and i haven't done a good stereo in anything for about ten years, well that changed today, got an Alpine Halo 9 head unit and wow is it bad ass, not only did the shop install a great system but the Halo unit is just so cool.
Even thou it sits out in from of the dash it is rock solid, zero movement when driving
It has all your basic stuff like you would expect , really nice big buttons so easy to see and hit while driving, but other cool things like controls for lights, lockers, winch so i don't have to have switches in the ash tray like before, its all on a screen, now i can turn on the compressor, front or rear locker all on the stereo.
Then they also did what i think is great looking door panels and sub enclosures AAfv7fDaRDSfzIcv4s5dUg.jpg z9idt%sGTRSw2MxHPOEifA.jpg c6UJjc13SZKIVGgYM+k0sQ.jpg and holy shit does this thing sound amazing

:waytogo:
Love how you can control things from the screen - ingenious!! Does it do that via Bluetooth?

I am with you. I haven't had a nice stereo in anything. What's better than a k30 to put one in! I can only imagine if I had four door speakers too!

Looks badass!

I've been saving two JL audio 12's and a really nice pioneer amp to put in the snow bear. I like the door speaker pods, gives me ideas for sure.

I looked it up, sounds pretty cool (no pun intended)...but the price lol. You think it's worth it?
Actually at this point i'm so damn happy with it i'm planning on getting one the the suburban and the blazer.

its not so big to be in the way but all the controls are super easy to get at, even being behind the steering wheel. yes its a bunch of money but it works so well.
and i really like the idea of not having to have switches all over the place.

I may invest in one once I start driving my blazer again.

That's cool as hell. I've been brainstorming ideas to get a screen and possibly nav into my wife's dually (if I ever finish it!), and that is a really cool idea. Does it have an option for navigation? (edit: I got off my a$$ and looked up the unit on Alpine's website and see it has Carplay, so I answered my own question!).

I've got aftermarket stereos in every truck I own, so I completely understand how nice it is to have good sounds. Just bought a new truck a couple months ago and drove it from the dealer's lot to my stereo shop for the install. Didn't have to listen to that crappy factory sound for more than 50 miles!

Best stereo I had in a vehicle was my '66 Buick Electra 225..
It had a huge wide dash, and I was able to hang a Pioneer house stereo and a graphic equalizer under the dash in the center--used a 400W inverter to power it,and I put the Pioneer house speakers in the back seat, that had 10" woofers, and hooked up a pair of 6x9 Jensen triaxials in the rear deck..

Haven't had much to brag about since..I've had a few decent stereos like Blapunkt and Kenwood in dash radio/cassette or CD players in the dash on my other trucks and cars, none sounded as good as the house stereo though..

@H20 Toie

Digging this one back out.

You still liking the ilx-f309?

I’ve been on the fence about rearranging the dash for a double din or even for this.

Is the screen at a good enough spot? Difficult to control while driving?

Do you have the truck accessory controller installed and functioning? I’ve got a a nice enough switch set up, but it’s still attached to the lower dash. I was going to relocate it into a console plan that I have coming up. I’d love to get rid of it, but am slightly concerned with relying on a head unit for my lockers, fan cutoff, lights, etc.

I’m about ready to pull the trigger on a new head unit. I’ve got a couple JL 12W3’s, a JL 1000/1, and a JL 800/8 that are sitting in waiting.

Do you have any experience with kick panels in squares? Or anyone else for that matter? I’ve also got the q logic kick panels to install, but I’m probably going to go with all four doors, dash, and rears instead. Not sure if both doors will be components or not.

Still happy with it.
besides the truck i got one for the Suburban and van, my blazer is still in the shop but it will end up with one also,
i haven't done the accessory controller yet, that will be for the blazer.
Since the truck doesn't have the smoothest ride in the world, it is really nice unit for controlling since the buttons are big enough and no issues with hitting the wrong ones.
Having it behind the steering wheel isn't as convenient as say my challengers center mounted display but its completely doable and the CarPlay nav works great. backup camera again not as nice as center mount but works fine.

The Halo 9 is nice piece. If you are liking the Android head units and the Halo is a little pricey for you then check out Eonon. Great little stereos. They do not have carplay or Android Auto but they do have google play store installed so you can install any app that is in the store.

I have one in my Dodge and love it. I put in the GA 2176 which is a Pie 9 based system.

Go with the kick panel location. I have them in my K5 and the sound stage they provide is amazing. The fist system I did in it was MB Quart components in the kick panels, Polk Momo 6.5 coaxials in custom boxes on the rear wheelwells, two JL 12W0s and a simple single DIN Alpine CD player. Incredible sound with no sound processing, and the sound stage sounded like it was out on the end of the hood. Unfortunatley the MB Quarts started to dry rot and disentigrate a couple years ago, so I had to replace them with some Hertz components, and admittedly the sound quality decereased a bit with that. The kick panels still allow for great staging though. I've spent gobs of money on stereos in all my vehicles (all with sound processing and full active wiring to the components), and my original K5 set up still probably had the best sound quality (or at least the best sound stage). My wife was like, "why does your 30 year old truck with a 20 year old stereo in it sound better than all of our new stuff?"

@The Butcher
No issue with feet and speaker clearance? I’m sporting 13’s but only two pedals.

Funny you mention the Momo’s. I’ve got a set of components and a set of coax’s that I’m tempted to use, but was thinking about going all new.

Well, I know my next Cadillac upgrade! Get rid of the switch panel, add hands free bluetooth, get some decent sound quality again... Win, win win! I like it!

You mean the DELCO/GM Auto DNR stereo with built in equalizer and cassette tape deck was not good enough for you. :D

The DELCO/GM Auto DNR in my 1991 V3500 crew cab still works Cassette player and all. The nice thing about a stereo like yours is you can go on Youtube with your cell phone, and play any song on Youtube from your cell phone through to your stereo.
