got me a new drill

So I sold some stuff recently so I had money that was not destined for other spots.

A week ago my drill I had been nursing along for some time now gave up the ghost ( you know it had to be held at a certain angle with your teeth holding the cord and the trigger had to be pulled exactly 2.25 mm etc) which left me without a drill.

Enter Milwaukee tools. They have a new drill uses a brushless motor and some new technology ( not really new just used in a new way ) to increase power and battery life.

Its the M18 "fuel" drill. Not cheap but wow after using it just a couple times it is a high quality piece.

I bought it because it came with 3 batteries and I thought well with 3 I might be able to finally only use a cordless drill.

So far so good. Its the best feeling cordless drill I have used in years.

I have a cage to build soon so going to use it to notch tubing, that will put it to the test

My 7 year old Makita set has finally killed the lithium ion batteries and I'm trying to decide if I should buy new batteries (for almost as much as I paid for the tools) or just buy a new set.

It's still the same set Makita is selling currently though, that was my only reservation. I think you're probably right though. My luck I'd pop for a couple new batteries and then I'd break a chuck or something

I don't know about cordless in a shop, why?
I have a couple of cordless tools for taking on my truck, but anywhere on my property I just use corded, plenty of power, never runs out, and I have a good selection of them.
OK now I should start a new thread about Hoarding tools.

if its the same thing than i'd probably not worry.
i upgraded because my old one had a big fat underhanging battery. the newer stuff all uses the li-on and is much lighter. seems more power.

Under a truck and having 3 cords one air hose and whatever else you might have gets old. Cordless technology has a long long ways to go to do cordless grinders or sawzalls, but drills its making leaps and bounds lately. I kill corded drills too so having the portability beyond a cord is super nice. I would run air everything if i had a big enough compressor.

So given my current selection of extension cords( only 2 30 footers) and the price of a new good corded i wasnt too far off the price on my drill. In addition to being able to have the drill whereever i need it, kind of a no brainer for me

You bring up a good subject:
On my big rig I now use only air tools for everything, I have a full set getting ready to be dedicated for it, it's better than cordless because I never run out of air.
At the shop, I am slowly transitionning to all air tools too since now I have a big compressor good enough for that, and I have 150 feet of 1/2" air hose, and I am putting a few fittings all over the place once it's all cleaned up.
I guess then I can have a real tools sale, I will have hundreds of electric tools, some never used still in boxes.

In my trade I have to run cordless. I am glad that you got the milwakee and expect updates to how its working. My Dewalt drill just pooped the bed but I can get a new one for $99 bucks. I have 6 very good batteries and the rest of the kit so will go with that for now. Just becareful with the hole saws the bigger the diamater the more torq put on the tool and that will destroy it faster than anything. I also have drillpress and holehawgs and the such for that type of work.

That said look into a pawn shop or tool auction as corded drills can be picked up fairly cheap and you end up not destroying the cordless.
