Well I got my welder today (Hobart 140) also got a 60 cu ft tank of 75/25 when I bought it guy through in a free refill on the tank, discounted 10 year lease on the tank, and free wire not just the flux core that it comes with but some extra stuff thats good for sheet metal I guess.

Well im gonna pull the doors off tomorrow and start welding in rocker panels. Any tips before I start? what about the quick disconnect pins for the doors how hard are those to do?(might as well since I got them off, right?)

I have the same one. I like it. The heat adjustment kinda sucks tho. You cant "fine tune it" You just have 4 settings. Overall good welder.

pretty good welder. my friend has one and thats what i learned on. That reminds me i gotta barrow his this spring.

I've got the predisessor to the 140. I have the 135. I run 75/25 mix and .023 wire. I've had it for about 6yr's. I like it alot for what it's design for. Still looking for a 220 ac/dc "buzz Box". I don't weld enough bigger stuff around home to justify the cost of a Miller 210. So the ac/dc stick welder will gitr done for me.

I recently bought a 187. I like it a lot but it is my first welder. I wish the heat adjustment was continuous, but I am sure the better I get, the easier it may be to compensate for that. I don't know how I ever lived without a welder before. It takes a while to stop jumping in the car to run to the hardware store to not find what you are looking for anway. Eventually you just make what you have work. A welder is like superglue that works.

I was looking at both the hobart 140 and 187 but went with the miller 180 for the continous adjustment, I like it so far.

Well I like it alot to ive used them before my dad got it because he wanted one in the garage to use and wants my truck the he|| out of his garage. He didn't want to spend the money for the miller, I did, but he didn't so we got the hobart.

you could just cut the pins out and use bolts, or you can do it and make it look clean by buying removable pins, it was on here somewhere.

Around here the miller 180 was 100 bucks more than the hobart 187, well worth it i thought.

Alright I started to strip off the doors of my balzer to weld in the new rocker panels and realized the fender is in the way so I looked in order to pull off the fender I got to pull off the hood. am I correct if so dads not going to be happy that im taking over his garage. How do I take off the fender the hood is just a few bolts and its off should I make marks to realign it? I need help getting in over my head.:eek1:

Use a sharpie to mark the way the hood was so you can put it back in the same way.

The fenders will have washers (to align the panels), remember where they went and you should be fine.

If you're just trying to take off the door, then open the door, put a support under it, unbolt the door from the hinge. (after marking the position of the bolts and hinge) then remove the door, leaving the hinge attached to the truck. Doors are heavy so you might need help.

Alright I got the doors off no problem I also go the two bolts (on each side) that hold the fenders on what else?

The two bolts? Theres a bolt by the door hinge, a bolt on top of the cowl under the back corner of the hood, a bolt at the bottom of the fender from behind into the fender, the bolts that hold the innner fender to the fender (about 10??) and the 8 or so that hold the fender to the core support, some behind the battery, some hidden by the headlamp, oh then theres the battery tray, the hood hinge, the filler panel below the grill..........starting to be discouraged????

This is what i would do, take out the six bolts, (three each fender) at the back of the fender, take out the bolts that hold the inner fender to the fire wall, (2) then loosen the front two body mounts, then with a couple jacks, or one and a stand, pivot the whole front clip (fenders hood, and all) up at the back of the fenders so the bottoms of the fenders are out of your way, this may only get you a few inches, before the inner fenders start hitting steering shaft and the heater, but it may be enough for what you need to do.

also a bolt under teh cab... near the front.. bottom fender bolt... 9/16ths i believe... usually covered in crap or by a plastic piece...

Got one fender off after about 300 freakin bolts leavin the other side on until I get the other side back together. Would of liked to do the front clip thing but didnt have the right tools at the time (my impact) or enough people.
