Got the 56\" rear today BUT..... FIXED Thanks guys!

ok well I got the 56" rears today and now the shackle goes back to the point of being flat. That Is not good either is it? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Re: Got the 56\" rear today BUT.....

quite bad. What setup are you using? If I went with 56s I'd run a 2" longer shackle(nice low rider shackles) and turn ORD flips around so they pushed the mounting location back isntead of forward. That would be a good setup as far as shackle angle is concerned.

Re: Got the 56\" rear today BUT.....

when I installed my 56's I moved the spring hanger back from stock. I measured eye to eye along the spring (mine were stock so it was a true 56... lifted springs will be a bit longer to account for the extra arch) so I set the hanger such that the distance from the front hanger bolt to the rear shackle bolt, with the shackle laid back flat, was 57 inches. This will keep the shackle from ever laying back flat even when the spring is flat.

Re: Got the 56\" rear today BUT.....

If you use the 2" drop shackle (for low riders) its will give you more lift and push the spring down

Re: Got the 56\" rear today BUT.....

help but I really really think you need to move the mount. I know with your tube frame that will be a little more difficult. How long is that shackle? Doesn't look 4".

Re: Got the 56\" rear today BUT.....

if it is stock its 4". Shackle will help but like I said you should really move the mount. 45 degrees is a much better shackle angle but not really perfect in my mind.

Re: Got the 56\" rear today BUT.....

did you measure along the spring? measure as if the spring is laid flat with no arch. as for fixing without moving the hanger... if you go with a longer shackle, you could fix it... but new issues could be introduced... such as too much lift, and something lower to hang on as you drop off a ledge, etc....

I see what you are saying but I need a quick fix if that will do it for now that is what I am going to do. I will try to get the hanger move later. Thanks for all the help guys. This kind of help is what makes this place great. /forums/images/graemlins/bow.gif /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Re: Got the 56\" rear today BUT.....

i had the same thing happen, and i thought i could solve it with a longer shackle.....it didnt work....i moved the rear hanger back 2" and made a 6" shackle and all is well...

Re: Got the 56\" rear today BUT.....

Not good to hear. I guess I will talk to the man that made the frame and see what he says. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Re: Got the 56\" rear today BUT.....

Thanks guys the longer shackle worked great. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif now I need to get some zero rates to move the axle back and bring the front up so I don't have such a huge rack (about 4" /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif). I will post some pics tomorrow.

/forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif
Thats why most of the 56-57" flips come with a 6" shackle /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif
