Got tricks?

Took the steering arm off my driver side knuckle, but can't get the studs out. Soaked them with PB for the last couple of days and I'll give it another go. Anybody know a neat trick for getting those studs out? I could just leave them in, but I kinda wanted a more finished look with the crossover steering.

What are you trying? Do you have a stud remover?

i use one of those when i need to do it.

sears for around 25 bucks..

and i would go get 3 fine thread bolts same size and install in the holes. just incase you ever want to reuse them later. then thay wont be all rusted out and no threads left.

all cam-style stud removers pale in comparison to a collet-style stud remover...

or you could try the ultimate cheap way, double nut em....


and bolts? aren't all steering arms tapered nut design?

I double nutted them really tight, and heated the knuckle up good and hot. One good heating was enough to do all three of mine.

Ryoken, he is talking about putting bolts in the holes on the knuckle, after the steering arm, studs and conical washers are removed, to protect the threads incase they someday need to be reused.

Sweet, thanks all! Never knew there was such an animal as a stud remover.......gonna have to go get one. Probably going to try the double nut way first, though.

I have in the past when all the other methods have not worked, welded a nut to the stud, of course its usually after I have broken or stripped the stud, or in one case broke my stud puller.

Put a good weld on it and it works usually

i assumed he was reusing it right away, didn't say otherwise....
