ive been looking for a chevy d60 for about a year now and no luck, but during that time ive picked up a 8 lug dana 44, a 8 lug 10bolt and 2 6lug 10 bolt , ive been thinking about building the 10bolt with chromemolly shafts, locker , and a 4.56 gears .

all ill be running is 38's witha 500hp small block with sm456 backing it ,

should i wait till i stumble on a d60 or build the 10 bolt with tons of spare parts?

500 hp + manual trans...id look for a 60.

you would probably be alright with a mild small block and an auto trans and 38s on those half ton axles...but a manual is just rougher on parts, and 500 hp is a LOT of power...

yea but ive been looking for one for a while every one i find is welded up but i still wanna drive the truck on the street i can spend the money that i would on buying a d60 in building the 10 bolt up and make the 10bolt as strong as a stock d60 im still not sure yet tho

I don't think you really can make a 10bolt as strong as a stock d60. Keep your eyes open, you'll find one. Try looking for a 1 ton truck for cheap, you'll prob pay as much for a whole truck with a d60 as you would for just a d60. Good luck.

yea i found one 1ton a 1976 DRW with a D60 in the front a np205 and 14bolt ff in the rear and a blowed up 454, 1700 theres only one prb i would buy it but im running out of room in my back yard with a 65 chevy nova, 79 swb gmc, 83 k5 blazer, 2 83 swb chevy, 87 swb chevy drag truck and a 87 swb V10

here's one if you want to go to az to get one, it is kinda pricey though, and no it isn't mine. http://wheelingarizona.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10652

I'd remove anything about selling parts and prices, mods don't like it much. You can always bring some of those spare parts up this way hah. You should pick up that truck and part out what you don't need, that way you get the 60, and some cash back. win win. And jason4x4, the bug in your signature freaks me out everytime I see it hah

getting around a welded diff is easy. install some lockout hubs.

there is no way you can make a built 44 as strong as a 60. I tried. I had HD shafts in mine and was blowing them up with an auto trans and a 350hp small block. sell all the stuff you have stock piled and get a 60. if you part out the 8 lug axles you will get more for them then as a complete axle. plus its easier to ship.

also sounds like you have to many projects. I tried building a car, my woods truck and still spend money on my DD. it never works. not enough money to go around, not enough time, not enough space. take whatever vehicle that has been sitting the longest without any work done to it and sell it. its obviously the one you like the least. I had a car that I had only put 88 miles on in 9 years. :doah:now I have a free garage bay, some cash and a friend that feels he got a great deal.

yea i no but im gettin ride of the blazer and two of the short wide i aint worried about a daily drive cuase i got a dsl guzzling 06 2500 4X4 cummins
