Gotta' Broken Dimmer switch?

Mine crapped out, and here's what I found.

There are two different switch styles, but they interchange. It's the steel mounting plate that differs.

One is from a front drive, the other maybe a van.

I ground the rivets off, and used a wood screw in the unused hole in the switch and plate. I shoulda' drilled da plate smaller, so I used a piece of the unneeded plate as a "nut". Then ground off the screw almost flush.


This screw touches the column, so grind it tight.

The switch is adjustable, so get it right!

Ever compared tilt column ignition switch with a non tilt switch? They're the same, but opposite. With some patience I was able to remove the switch from the steel mount, reverse it's orientation and rebend the tabs. I cleaned the copper slide contacts chunks while I was at it, kept the best ones and have run that switch for 5 years now.
