I'm kicking around the idea of using an early style S-10 jimmy for off road.

I've got a chance of picking one up from a friend.
His is an 84, pre FI and two door.

What's the wheelbase of these?

I have a full size K5 frame w/one ton running gear it would be going onto.

Let me know what ya think about this kind of swap.

I like my S-10 Blazer, but I would swap the drivetrain in the Blazer frame, rather than swap bodies. You can get alot of lift swapping in springs and axle up front.

I dunno, why start messing with a good/working running set up?

My K5 frame is all set and working, under my K5 ready to wheel with.

I'm only thinking about swapping bodies over to 'skinny' up the off road ride some and get a couple more creature comforts.

The specs of my current wheeler is in my sig.

Somehow it seems way easier to just swap over the body compared to re-engineering the entire drive train to fit into a smaller frame.

What am I missing?
Your not the only one that's suggested it.

the wheel bases are very close with in a few inches, the s-10 also has a wider frame than the k-5

stock wheelbase on a 2dr S10 is 98". 7.5" shorter than a K5.

My straight axle S10 is at 115" now.

The S10 frame is beefier and better designed all around I think. The exact reason I got rid of my K5 and went to the S10. K5 frames are junk in my eyes.

Interesting...

Okay, so now ya got me thinking about leaving the 1st gen alone and just building the jimmy from scratch.

did not notice you had a first gen. I would probably keep that and start fresh with the S10.

Yep, I think that's the new plan. :D

I still contemplate bout parting/selling the 89 and building an S-10. I'm gonna be getting an 85 Blazer with a 350 in it already for $200. Thought about putting the EB axles in, cutouts and 35" boggers, won't need a doubler, or even steep gears. I've wheeled more with my old S-10 than with my 89, and owned the 89 for 5-6 years now.

Any progress with your plans?

I see in your sig you have a 93, still for sale?

Trade for a t-case/tranny? :deal:

Any pics of it?

I PM'd yah back. I got the axles and lift in the 89, but still need to regear, and get a front shaft, at least. New shocks too, the ones on there now are toast. Still thinking about selling it, either whole or part it out. Thought about building the 85 with the 350 in it, but I need to go look at it again, think it was worse than orignally thought. I haven't done anything to the 93, other than put a fender on it and a visor. Was supposed to be getting a 5" lift for it, but don't think that is gonna happen now. Wifey and I thought we were getting a decent amount for taxes, but found out that we aren't getting sh!t, so don't think much is gonna be getting done now......
