thinking about welding my rear 14b w/gov bomb. its given me no trouble(42''tsl's) but hear bad things about them....can i wheel it until it grenades and then weld it or is it to late then?
what usually breaks in the gov bomb?, which iirc is made by eaton/
when it does go does it usually take r&p and bearings w/it?

on 42s? id junk it and get a new open carrier and a detroit...

i split the carrier in half with 33s in my 10b g88, now i understand that a 14bff g88 is much stronger, but can it handle 42s? my guess is only for a matter of time... btw mine broke on pavement... at 35psi sideways across 3 lanes...

I asked this a few years ago and the general info was they will go out but in a 14 bolt they do not normally break the carrier like in 10 and 12 bolts due to the shear size of a 14 bolt carrier. When they go out they either do not work or they lock up and act like a spool.

14bFF case is stronger. The SF has the same problems that the others do.

I think the problem with the gov-lock in the 14FF is that most people on here that use the 14FF also tend to use their trucks hard, and the gov-lock's operation doesn't lend itself to that as well.

Since it stays unlocked virtually all the time, waiting on wheelspin to lock up, you are obviously initiating wheelspin instead of having traction to both wheels regardless, like a true locker. Not only that, but for things like mud, because it disengages around 25MPH, it's worthless.
