A gov lock is almost like a locker. When one of your tires loses traction and stats to spin the gov lock will lock both the axle shaft together(left and right axle shaft) so both tires spin at the same speed. But when your turning it will act like an open carrier and allow the outside tire to spin more. Gov locks are great for day to day driving on the street and driving around the farm. But they dont last long when it comes to offroad use.

the gov lock is a locker that uses centrifugal force and clutches to lock the axle shafts together. It is a factory part and it still finds it way into some of the current vehicles today. It acts just like an open differential but I think when theres a wheel speed diference of like 200 RPMS it will engage. It is nick name the gov bomb because they are notorious for grenading if you do any sort of wheeling. I think its a great idea, there just not very tuff. If you ever have the chance of looking at one outside of a diff. I would, I thought it was kind of interesting myself.
