Released from Pueblo, told I belong in Southpark
Used both for navigation on roads and off road trails. I want one that is capable of downloading info / maps to it.

Larger screen the better.

Make model, where to get it and price would be great. Thanks.

I'm looking into this now as well. I kinda have it down to a Garmin 60Csx or a garmin Vista Hcx. The cheapest is Amazon.com from what I have found. the 60 is about 280 and the vista is 199. There is one more I'm kinda considering and it is a Delorme PN40 its in the 300 range but for $29 a year you get unlimited map down loads. The Pn40 reviews have been good but its from Geocachers so I'm not sure about the road part.

thanks for the info. The Lowrance 540 Baja was a little more than they wanted to spend. i was looking at the lowrance XOG also. But now you gave me a couple others to scope out.

But that 540 baja is trick. I have 2 of them and use them in Baja and the US. There is no comparison except for the bigger Baja version.

I'd also be curious of what model would be the best hybrid. I've been waiting to see one that could serve double duty. Mostly on road features with off-road capabilities. Do the Lowrance models offer any on road stuff? (Besides for the XOG)

Don't get a Magellan. My wife has a Garmin and it's a much better unit. I've got the Magellan CrossOver GPS and they haven't updated the maps in almost two years! Sometimes it will send you on a wild goose chase . . . the wife's Garmin doesn't do that.

+1 on Lowrance Baja 540C. I have the Lowrance and Garmin GPS V as backup plus its portable and handheld on 3 AA Batteries. I hate get'n lost :haha:
