What have you guys and gals done for a passenger OH **** handle? Pics please!
Has anyone mounted a grab handle to the passenger dash like the handles found in Jeep CJ's? If so, how did you do it?

I've never thought about adding one, but now that you mention it, it's a good idea. Doubt there's a chance of a rollover, but it will give my wife a good handle to climb in with.

I made one out of some solid bar stock we had laying around, bents little legs on each end and welded a small plate with a few holes in them then self tap screwed it to the a pillar on the pass side. worked really well.

pics? Im interested. is it in your 71?

na, that was in the black truck. I can look at my home computer and see if I might have a pic that you can see them

AKA the Jesus bar ... 'cuz whoever is using is shouting "jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeebus" ... anyway.

Smittybilt used to make a nice padded fabric handle that Velcro-d onto a cage, rollbar, etc. Not so useful for the dash proper, but nice 'cuz you can move them around for different height users, whether you have the doors on or not, etc.

Otherwise, you usually see a smaller size tube, like ~1" ID, bent and welded to the rollcage ... expensive for the DIY-er 'cuz it means you gotta buy another die, but the at the same time, using 1.75" or 2" for a handle is kind rough.

I've often seen them as reinforcements in the forward upper corners of the cage, parallel to the long axis of the truck.

If you don't have a cage ... hmm. The dashpad on our trucks is not what I'd consider structural, i.e. not strong enough to want to hang onto, so the pillar would be the next closest thing.

i also had a semi truck grab handle, the kind on the side to help get in on the dah of the black truck too

theres were holes in the cab above the door already for handles, at least in my burb there was.
I took a inside door puller handle thingy from my stepmoms new yorker back door and screwed it in. I dont think shes even noticed it missing

The dash is not strong enough to mount a real oh-**** handle to IMO. I know you said you don't have any chance of a roll-over, so if that is the case you would prolly be alright.

Personnally I think the dash is too far away to reach if you are strapped into the seat right (think 4-5 pt harness). There is no excuse for a passenger to not be buckled in tight. As a driver I will ride w/ my top harness loose so I can look out the side to see were I am putting my tires. Whatever you do just make sure you don't put a grab bar were someones hand can get crushed in a roll. I made mine in the center of the rig as part of the cage. I stole the idea from Dan Dibble's buggy & Frankie's Offroad. specs are 1.25" DOM & It runs front to back the length of the cage. It is mounted to the tube that runs down the center of the cage.

Sorry for the big pics I didn't feel like re-sizing.

Nice cage!! Talk about triangulation. Looks like a good idea, I may have to borrow it for mine. It could be done for both front and rear passengers. Thanks.

I cut the bottom part of some BMX bike handle bars off and welded it on to my cage. They were just lying around and I dont have a bender, they work alright
