Grabber at2 vs bfg vs ????

alright im in need of new tires for my 09 silverado. so ive been doing alot of looking and alot of reading. im getting mixed reviews on the at2 so has anyone here any real world experience with it?

my other consideration is the bfg which is tried and true but alot more money also. i dont mind spending alittle more to get what i want but they are a good 50$ more then the grabber per tire.

any other tires i should look at? looking at coopers but since i bought some last they have skyrocketed on price. tire size will be 275/65/18 most likely.
 
Fwiw, I put some Hankooks on my Dodge and they're miserable to balance. I've had them done 3 times now over almost 10k miles and it still shakes around 55~60. Only reason I bought them was because they offered the size I wanted (295/70R17), I'll be buying something different next time. :doah:
 
The BFG's do rock. I have them on a 1/2 ton 2wd Ford, that was strait up scary on snow or ice before, with half tread even still. Now with the BFG's Im confident that I wont die.

I think the Grabbers are a clone of the BFG's arent they? I think I saw a magazine review that said there OK.

Firestone Destination AT's are a great tire, but spendy and not as agressive as a BFG.

And Ive heard nothing but good about anything from cooper.

That's good to know because I was looking at one of the hankooks but wasn't sold on them yet.

Yes the grabber looks alot like the bfg. Which is one reason I like it. Some people love the grabbers. Others hate them. And I'm not spending 1k on tires to hate them.

The coopers are a great tire. If I found a deal I would go with the S/T. But I can't find it for less than 250 a tire.
 
We have the At2's on a truck here at work. 06 CCSB ford f-250 with the 6.0 in it. Awesome tires. I personally love them. IMO, way better then BFG AT's.

Best a/t tire I have had. Its somewhere between AT/MT Great road manners, but then again I can't hear if the tires make noise over a 4" exhaust from my duramax

I only have a few thousand miles on the new cooper at3's and so far they are awesome! quite, stable and good in the rain. we'll see how the snow driving is soon. I have standard load 265/70/17 on an 07 silverado 1500

I agree, only about 1500 miles on my Cooper AT3s and so far I love them, handling is better because of the speed rating, wet traction is awesome, dry traction is pretty good too. Also, I used them a little in the light snow and some shallow wet mud/grass and I was impressed for an all terrain, didn't even spin a tire when my brother was slipping and sliding all over the place in his truck in the wet soil. The only thing I don't know yet is the tread life, but if they last as long as the 55k warranty i'll be very happy, so far I would buy them again, and they were a lot cheaper than the BFG Rugged Terrains. I wouldn't get the ST because I don't think it has a treadwear warranty, unless you don't care.

I have 235/75/R16 on a trailblazer, I got them for $500 installed after the $75 rebate.
 
Warranty is very important for sure. I want a tire that will last me 50 or 60k miles. I know the bfg will do that. I just hate to pay that much if the grabber will also for alot less.

I will look at that cooper at3. I loved my last coopers I had.
 
I've got BFG AT's on my Tracker. Like them but for the price I won't likely get another set. I have no use for the 3 ply sidewall or big name so while their performance is good I just have reason to spend the money to get features I don't need.

My cousin has ran those General Grabber AT's for a few years now on two different newer Silverados and swears by them. He had one set on his last Silverado and ran them for something like 50k miles and then sold them to a friend who ran them for at least a year after that. May still have them, I haven't heard. He bought another set when he got the current Silverado a year or so ago and again has nothing but good to say about them.
He's not an offroader per say but he is an avid hunter and outdoorsman so they see everything from daily driver use to getting back into the woods through all types of Michigan terrain.

I'm considering them when this set of BFG's wear out. Also considering Kumho's AT's and possibly the GT Radial Adventuro AT's since I have had good experiences with both brands in the past.
 
I just bought a set of Yokohama geolander at's. Love them so far! We run them on several trucks at work and they have been great. Decent looking tire, good tread life, pretty durable and awesome in snow.
 
I read online sears will match any online price so I'm gonna run by there and see why they can do for some of these tires.
 
My sister just got some Falken Rocky Mountain ATS's on her 1/2 ton Dodge that were on sale at America's Tire. They were very reasonably priced and even if they wear a little faster they have a ton of tread depth.
I've been with her in the truck and they are really quite too.

Just something else to throw in the mix. :)
 
I called discount tire a few days ago and he recommended the same tire. I just haven't found one local yet to check out.

I'm sure its just the tire they're pushing right now but they seem to be a good bang for the buck. The shop by us has a "tire of the day" sort of deal and the day she went in it was those falkens. Maybe ask them about it.
 
Two guys at work have the Hankook Dynapro ATM's. One is a set of 285/75R16's on a Powerstroke Superduty which has made many long distance trips pulling various trailers. The other is stock size for the older generation Tundra that is driven empty most of the time. The tires were on the truck when he bought it around 3 years ago. They both love the tires.

I have 285/75R16 BFG All-Terrains on my 2500HD, and this is the 4th different set of tires I have tried. They are by far the best set I had tried, but there are a dozen other brands out there I haven't. They currently have around 50,000 miles on them and I don't expect to have to replace them until next spring or summer when they are closer to 60k (and I don't wait until tires are completely bald either). I do agree they are expensive and I've been looking at other brands, but it will be difficult to try something else because of how happy I have been with them.
 
the other concern i have with bfg is the size i want only comes in 10 ply. i just dont have a need for that heavy duty of tire so not sure i would even go with the bfg. im still in big debate. ive been looking at all the tires yall have mentioned so far. still lookin at the grabber, bfg, falken, cooper
