CO Grand Junction to Denver

Hey all -

I am really thinking hard about getting this K30 shipped from Grand Junction to Denver:

I took a look at quotes online (uShip.com) and it is about $450 or so. There were some budget listings for cheaper (as low as $200), but I don't know whether that is reliable / comes with a catch / whatever the hell else could happen.

I'm ignorant about how all this works so if anyone has any thoughts for me, let 'er rip.

I talked to Nate and he would haul it, but it would be $450 for him too. It's a pretty long drive.

Maybe get AAA and drive it. If it breaks call for a tow. Or the closer you can get it to Denver, the cheaper it would be for someone to haul it the rest of the way. :D

Man I would if the weather was guaranteed to be clear.

It has a death wobble, consistently pops out of second, and the tires are trash. The highway has been real snowy between our two cities, and I have limited experience driving a stick. I'm down with taking chances in life but all signs point to "NO" on that front.

Ok. But at least 3 of those factors are things you can control. Take your $450 and buy new tires. Bring them with you, and the trashed tires are gone (and perhaps the death wobble, if the tires were influencing that). You shouldn't be using second gear much during the highway trip (can you just hold the shifter in place during those brief moments?). You can practice stick-shift driving by borrowing someone's car prior to your trip.

An AAA membership gives you 100 free miles of towing, three times per year. As long as you make it within 100 miles, you can simply ride the tow truck home. You can call them twice for the same truck, if the truck breaks down 200 miles from home.

There are plenty of sane reasons not to drive a marginal truck across the Rockies in the wintertime. But it would be pretty neat if you pulled it off.
