Hi,

In one of the biggest GMC Truck Forums in our Region, series of discussion took place and still ongoing with no 'clear end', so far! This discussion was triggered in response to 'double-fold question' as follows:

1) Has GM ever built, assembled and made 511 Cubic-Inch Big Block Engine in the production-form?
The same question applies for the 502 Engine?

2) If so, when was that? And, in which specific truck/car this "511 BB-Engine" was offered by GM (indicating whether it was offered for public use, military, special-duty/purpose etc.).
The same question applies for the 502 Engine.

Note: In case other 'GM-Approved Vendors' were/are making those BB-Engines (511, 502 or bigger), then who are they (by name, please)?

Since am residing far away from the 'source of origin' and the famous 'detroit plant', I'll be eager to witness the "undisputed definite truth" and listen to your responses right from the 'formal & credible sources' that you know and believe in. I trust in your help.

If it will help, I am willing to amend the title to invite "All engine experts" instead of limiting it to the age.

Query: Could it be possible that I need to re-post such a Thread in other section in this website, or may be try it with other more-relevant websites, as you may advise & recommend?

I'll remain standing by, as my faith is strong and hope is high out of this 'expert-full' website.

502 was and still is a gm produced engine. i cant recall any truck applications off the top of my head, but they were used extensively in the performance marine industry. you can still get them from gm performance parts.

a 511 is just bored and stroked 454. 4.310 bore with a 4.375 stroke makes a 511ci
 
GM did install the 502 in motorhomes when the engine was first built but never in a car or truck. It was however available as a GM performance crate engine.
 
GM had the big block 8.2 liter (500 cubes) cadillac V8 in the 70-76 caddy's alot of people thought these were 502 engines because the emissions sticker on the rad support had a 502 part # that had nothing to do with the engine size.
4.300 bore X 4.304 stroke.
 
Indeed, you are right. I saw a caddy (Eld.) with the 500 engine (front wheel drive).

If possible, when was the 502 introduced in the RV's?
 
The 502-cubic-inch (8.2 L) (501.3cuin) was offered in various fleet and service vehicles in the late '70s and early '90s[citation needed]. It had a bore of 4.466 with a stroke of 4.00 and was a cast iron 4-bolt main block. Later GM offered it in their Performance Parts catalog, available as multiple crate motors with horse power ratings between 338 hp (252 kW) to 502 hp (374 kW), and torque of 470 lb·ft (637 N·m) to 567 lb·ft (769 N·m) in "Base" and "Deluxe" packages.[11] The "Ram Jet 502"[12] (502 hp (374 kW) / 565 lb·ft (766 N·m)) crate motor was offered with fuel injection, and came as a turn key setup which includes all the wiring and electronics needed to operate in any vehicle.

That was from Wiki but haven't found any fleet or service vehicle that it came in yet.

Thank you for digging up this exciting info. It seems that the more we drill into the "untold story behind 502 & 511", the muddier it gets.

Now, am wondering and feeling puzzled about those"fleet or service vehicles" that are claimed to have hosted the 502 within its fenders!
 
Is there any one who can advise when was the 502 introduced and assembled in the "Motorhomes" (as I gathered from the discussion)?
