So I'm installing my deck and I have my constant and my ignition wires all good and the stereo works. The only thing is that there is a gray wire left over (on the truck) that has something to do with my dash lights. if i leave the wire undone the dash lights wont work, if i plug it in it will just turn on when the key goes on. My lights used to work fine before I started messing around under there. As it is now if I cant figure it out, I am just going to have it so they turn on with the stereo. any help? This truck really needs to be rewired. If it wasn't my daily driver id do it.

gray wire should just be the dimmer wire that went to the stock headunit and shouldn't matter if its plugged in or not. Move the headlight switch all the way to the left and see if they light up. I dont think i have my gray wire hooked up on anything ive put an aftermarket stereo in.

something must have got screwed up. I checked all the fuses and everything. No luck playing around with the light switch knob. All I know is that they quit working when I was wiring the deck. I think I'm gonna have to take the dash apart again.

The dash light wire is not gray, it is orange if I remember correctly, I can double check tomorrow when I have access to my stereo keys. Pretty common to see someone hook up a wire wrong. Most grays are involved in the speakers and not the dash lights.

huh
I only remember two yellows and a gray, or something like that

are you sure it went to the stereo? I guess it could be the same as the AC controller light bulb. It also has a gray and black wire. Sorry, I never had a radio in my truck.
