guy at work says his 93 ford 250 diesel has a grease packed transmission.

i dont know what standards came in the fords but i have never heard of a

greased packed tranny? is he smoking crack? and if it is greased packed how the heck does that work?

also what motor was that? he says its a turbo diesel IDI motor (which with the mouth he has on him its the most amazing motor in the world)

is it an international or a powerstroke?

IDI is "indirect injection" Another of Fords various ways of trying to make a good diesel injection system. I think he has one of the forst yreas Powerstroke 7.3. Regarding the grease packed trans "he`s on crack" gets my vote. It probably has a zerk fitting sticking outta the botton of the inspection cover or bell housing for the T.O bearing and since he has pumped 14 tubes of grease into its now a grease packed trans, hehe :)

Should be a 7.3L diesel and a ZF trans...I think the 5 speed OD. I looked at a similar vintage F350 a few years ago and I want to say that was it's configuration. Had what looked like regular gear lube in it...I think.

Sounds like your buddy's talking out of his ass.

Ask your boyo if he`s been hangin out at Jiffy lube again. I think they have a special on repacking muffler bearings this week.

These weren't really a Powerstroke. They are merely a factory turbocharged old style 7.3L Diesel. The Powerstrokes are what's known as HEUI engines. Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injector, using High pressure oil to hydraulically stroke the injector directly into the cylinder instead of using a cam driven injection pump and a conventional poppet nozzle into a precombustion chamber.

The grease packed tranny is laughable in its own right.
