Wasilla AK,
Its crazy what salvage yards are charging these days , I called this morning to find a 4L80E for my 91 V3500 and they told me it was gonna be 1300.00 without the convertor our computer . I told the guy I could have mine rebuilt for that much with a warranty . His answer was "Well do that then quit bothering me." and hung up

I had the same thing recently, needed a NP263 hd transfer case for my dad's 03 2500, salvage yards and evilbay they were going for a grand and up, we ended up getting a reman from the stealership with a warranty for 12 and change.

Around here a 14 bolt at a junk yard will cost you $800 to a grand. It is a joke what they want for some of this stuff.

My cousin tried to tell me a while back that junkyards in East Texas wanted $1500 for a 6 lug 14bsf. I said "hell man, I've got one here I'll let for a grand if you need it."

:eek1: wow, I do have a few u-pull it yards near me that are very reasonable, the selection is not always that great (at least for what I'm looking for) but as an example; a car or light truck rear end assembly lists for $65 :D a transmission is $90 with a $10 core.

Just about the same around here. If you can find it in a u-pull yard the price is usually reasonable. If you go to a recycler or used auto part dealer better bend over. I had a customer with an 03 HD that needed a transfercase. He said he could do it cheaper, he came back later that week to have a GM reman put in.. The used on was two hundred cheaper with a 90 day warranty.

holy chit dude, what kinda junk yards are you going to? Just head out of town a little ways if you want to find good deals on stuff. I just moved from college station to Huntsvegas, and will go back to there JKs if I ever need parts because they have given me such good deals in the past. Got a chevy kingpin d60 a few years back for $200 and countless other little odds and ends. OR you could always surf craigslist...

When they give you a quote like that, ya gotta run right around and say, I'll sell you the one I got for half that and deliver it and see what they say!
