"Gredda's" Build / WTF / Help Me! Thread

does that SYE require me to do anything with my driveshaft length? Is it as simple as....remove driveshaft, remove Tcase, install SYE, reinstall T case?

let me know if there is a write up / how to somehwere...I need to look into this.

The SYE kit was literally the easiest thing ever on my Blazer. It only took like 30 minutes to take it apart and have it all back together again. No idea on the write up, though. You will need to adjust the length of your driveshaft. AKA: get a new one

pull the Tcase? I have never done that, but cant be hard.

Is this something you do while under the truck, or on the bench?

When I take the tcase off, is fluid going to spill out of the trans?

I have a trans leak too!!!! but I think its just a pan leak...still tracing origins of all the ATF fluid on my garage floor:whistle:

Pull the Tcase, it's only a few bolts and it's easy.

Do it on the bench, not under the truck, your back will be much happier.

Fluid will spill out, at least it did on mine.

You may want to call H.A.D. and talk to Jesse about it, he will give you good info and tell you about anything you may need. I bought my SYE and rear driveshaft from him, and I'm about to buy a front one, too.

If you do the conversion, make sure you get the 1350 output since you are installing the 14 bolt. Doesn't matter if its yoke, or flange since you'll need a new driveshaft.

Chalet, call me crazy, but I am starting to wonder if the 14b is gonna get installed right away. I am thinking about taking a new direction, and getting the truck street worthy and reliable first...then revisit the axle swap scenario.

basically, money got tighter and the thought of spending a bunch of money getting it all ready for serious off roading, would then leave me no money to handle any sort of repairs needed as I am using it.

it needs some TLC right now just to get legal here in my county. i am really thinking I should put my time and money towards making her a better road machine for now.....then revisit the axle swap. I could be just having a bad day...but I dont want to end up with a mall crawler that I dont offroad due to fear of breaking something I cant afford to fix in a timely manner.

ugh, even saying it outloud sounds bad...I really want a gnarly truck...but I also REALLY need a reliable truck to tow my dirt bikes and go camping.fishing. i think the axle swap needs to go on back burner and I need to get myself a good running and driving stock k5 first. either call me crazy, or tell me I am being reasonable.....

Get it running and driving legally first, then worry about the swap. Try to enjoy the truck for what you got it for before trying to make the beefiness happen. It'll last just fine stock as long as you don't drive like a maniac.

I am a motorcycle guy...and these days, I only have money for one hobby. I can afford keep a truck running with the regular maintenance....but since this isnt my #1 hobby, I dont know that I have the money for all the horror stories I read about from the guys that go out "wheelin"

i WANT to be out wheelin and roughin it up in my blazer, but for now...I think I need to keep it a driver/vehicle and not turn it into a true hobby on its own.

maybe next year I can do something more fun with it...but unless something changes...I am going to focus on making her tip top, and drive straight, smooth, and without leaks! :haha:

Am I being a wuss?

I feel like if I keep it stock for now, I limited my possible issues, and I can use the truck for what I need it for....once I do the swap and start down that path, there is no turning back.

That's not crazy. I had six different axles and 2 sets of springs in here by the time I installed those on the Chalet.

**** changes, nothing wrong with having a running, legal truck.

Yup, deal with the other stuff first. Drive it, use it, and enjoy it as is.

Continue the axle swap later down the road.

I think I am just frusterated...

Its 103+ here, so not much garage time is being spent right now...feels stalled.

I get overwhelmed when I take on everything at once. Just talked to 77Jimmy...he talked me out of a tree.

baby steps. towards getting it inspected and on the road again.

first step....replaced trans pan gasket (hopefully fix leak) *replace filter while im in there*

second step...replace Tcase output shaft seal (see if that fixed tcase leak)

thats enough for now....:D

I could take that detroit off your hands if you feel like you are staying stock for a while. I mean.. it has been in a rollover. It could explode or something.

well, I ordered an aluminum trans pan (with drain plug), and a lube locker gasket. I am hoping that will knock out my trans leak. Next is replacing the Tcase output seal. Going to try and tackle that this weekend. I have a red garage floor because of my leaks:whistle:

I think making it streetable is your best plan, from your original description of why you wanted a K5 will be met by your nearly stock Blazer. Sleep well knowing that you already have a solid back up plan ready to go if and when the time comes. Maybe in a few months or next year you'll be ready to do the swap, but don't just do it out of fear from others experiences. There are still a ton of these trucks riding and wheeling around on 10 bolts... Mine included, I'm just not ready to take the leap yet, and I love driving my truck as she sits right now. I learned a long time ago to keep my project vehicle street legal, and only tackle projects that I can finish and get it back on the road fairly quick. I had a few projects that got stuck in the garage never to see the road again, it's just what works for my personality. I personally love all you've done so far, but I think you've taken on a lot already. You need to drive this thing!!! I wish I lived near you, I hate working on my stuff by myself. I love having shop nights with friends, nothing better than a few guys wrenching on something, making fun of each other. Don't forget that many of the Internet wheelers who say you absolutely need to swap your driveline are 8 years into floor and rocker replacements...
