"Gredda's" Build / WTF / Help Me! Thread

Hey , DnD your fixin to swap in a 14bff with the old style parking brake , your truck has the new style. Ask how to fix that.

yeah~ what he said! any thoughts?

might as well spill the beans....i got a pallet coming thanks to a member here.

14bff with detroit locker and 4.10
10bolt open front with 4.10
4" lift springs
37" tires on 8 lug wheels
custom braided brake lines

"gredda" is about to get a whole lot cooler!

but seriously....what should I do when I encounter the parking brake issue?

If your state requires a yearly safety inspection than that won't fly.

To answer the question, cables can be made. Your 14b ff rear, is it using disc or drum brakes?

drum brakes on the 14 bolt. Inline tube built longer cables to reach from the drum to the frame.

yeah, what he said! I have been cleaning out the garage and making room....I cant wait for the new goodies to arrive.

The only difference is the size of the hole correct? Just use a washer. I installed a 12 bolt from a 1976 K10 under a 1990 K5 Blazer and used the '76 brakes and the '90 cables.

I don't know about converting newer model e-brake to older. I can send the middle set of lines and adjuster if it helps. The cable from the adjuster into the cab I cut when I pulled the body off.

I didn't really convert. i just installed two washers, one on each cable, to hold the cables in the backing plates.

Is it a bad sign that I am already confused :doah:

j/k I will get it all figured out....thats what you guys are for

I'll be over at DnD's house supervising the project , I'll tell him to do this , I understand what your saying.

I had to dig through my assortment of old hardware I save from parting out trucks and such. I found two that were the exact right diameter, and fairly thin. They worked great.

so, working on the prep for the bedliner spray. i got some 180 grit paper for my DA sander. Is this enough? or does it need to be down to bare metal? I hadnt planned on spraying any self etching primer, unless there is surface rust that I grind down to bare metal.

am i right?

so as most of you know, I recently replaced my bent tie rod with a HD one from ORD. But now (thanks to Chalet####) I will be swapping my stock 10 bolt rear for a 14bff. Is my BRAND NEW tie rod going to still fit? I hope so, I have never left the driveway with it!!!

Im confused, what does a tie rod have to do with a rear axle? :dunno:

sorry, only half the thought came out....

im also replacing the front 10 bolt with a 10bolt with 8 lug setup. I really meant to ask if that should be the same as my current one.

wow...sometimes i amaze myself.
