"Gredda's" Build / WTF / Help Me! Thread

btw, given that front view. if I want a new bumper, build im really strapped for cash...what would you do?

i could get my hands on some 4inch and 6inch tubing for free...anything else i would have to buy. something cheap n easy? pics would be good too.

who wants to bet on whether or not I pass inspection in 2 days?

engine seems to be idling 99% good and runs decent. smells like raw fuel out of the exhaust though.

I say it fails, and I need a new catalytic converter...(then I am forced to go ahead with a flowmaster exhaust and high flow cat.)

first time the rig has ever been required to pass emissions (that I know of)

If you can take it for a long as trip as possible just before the inspection , to get the cat hot.

yeah, I had read that, gonna get a good drive it the best I can. no plates, no stickers of any kind...im a bit nervous about driving too much.

HELL YEAH! She passed inspection...even emissions! Soon as the new plates come in....she is back on the road. And now that the temps are falling below 100 here, the axle swap is coming up fast.

Sweet! Congrats. The temps. are dropping here also. Now, I will be workin on the rig too!!!

Good to hear!!! I'm still following this one, I found a nice, cheap rear bumper to build, but I'm still looking for something for the front myself. I'm curious to see what you come up with. Congrats on getting it street legal again, enjoy it!!!

I have them saved on my phone, but I "borrowed" them from a guy on another board. He posted them for others to use, and I'm going to just change a few minor things, and add a 2" receiver so I can pull my M101A2 behind the Blazer. Should be more than strong enough for my needs. I'll try and post it up to photobucket tonight, or if you pm me your email I can just send it to you straight from my iPhone. For some reason photobucket and I don't get along well, especially the mobile version... I'm thinking the plans could easily be modified to work on the front as well.

went for a joyride last night...was nice.

few things still needing attention:
1.Tcase seal still needs to be replaced
2.even after the jeep xj steering shaft mod, still have lots of freeplay in the wheel.
3. not quite running smoothly....is timing something I should have checked? tbi need adjusting? cat converter?

even though it passed...i need to address the slight stumbling at idle.

In this age of new crappy gasoline blends that go bad in a couple months and screw things up, I'd try a good quality fuel system cleaner and fill up with a tank of super first. Then go from there. Always good to check your timing, remember these were to be set at 0* with the EST wire disconnected. I've read some of these TBI motors like as much as 6* advanced, mine was set at 8* when I got it, and would ping under load. Quite a few things can cause a stumble, start with the free things first!!!
I emailed you that picture, let me know if the quality is ok, if not I can resend it to you. I priced it out, I'm looking at roughly $125 to $150 to build it myself, but $75 of that was just to buy the tube itself.

cool thanks. never messed with a vehicle and timing. can I just take it to my local mechanic and say "check the timing?"

bumper plans look good, and cheap!

You can, BUT, talk to him and ask him to show you how. It's confusing at first, but once you see how easy it is once you know what you are doing, you won't want to pay him again. I could show you in about 10 minutes if I lived close to you. The worst part of the job is loosening and tightening the distributor hold down bolt and finding the mark on your harmonic balancer.

big thanks to 77_jimmy for spending all day listening to my stupid questions.

Got the T-Case seal installed, and learned a bunch of stuff

1. Going with new leaf springs for the rear lift
2. Transmission adapter seals must be bad, Transmission is leaking ATF into my 241 Tcase.
3. Distributor is making noise.
4. I worry too much about leaks and squeaks
5. The truck is ready for a trip to alaska :D

now, to figure out how to solve the issue of the exhaust piping and the driveshaft after the lift.

Took the "family" out for a ride...was fun

Nice looking family:D Good to here you getting things done:waytogo:

Any truck that can moo at buzzards is ready for Alaska, :waytogo:

well, rear leaf springs ordered. looking like this axle swap/lift is right around the corner.

just ordered the greasable fush kit, and HD greasable shackles from ORD.....may have to start a new thread when this build goes from bad to rad!:D

so i installed the speedi sleeve on the 14bff and reinstalled the spindle washer, nut, key, and outer nut.

Since I dont have a proper tool for those, I just used a screwdriver and some light tapping of a hammer. I got everything snugged up pretty well...but how crucial is it to be perfect there? My outer "key" only had 1 tab left (rest were broken off) so I just used that one...then black rtv and put the rest back on.

sound right?
