My speedo cable came loose and the needle jumped.... cracked off the needle and when I tried to remove it the shaft broke off too. I have a spare cluster here but it don't have a location for the green box to attach to. My truck is a 1980 3/4 ton 2wd gmc with a 90's tbi swapped in. Some say it's just for cruise which I don't have anyways and others say she needs it for tbi.
Anyone?

Yes, you need it for your TBI setup. It provides your vehicle speed to the PCM for fuel and idle calculations.

Yes for sure. I have one but the first 660 Kms has no cell service and dirt roads. Driving from Goose Bay Labrador to Mount Pearl Newfoundland. It's currently -19 Celsius here too. The trip is like a gaulet throw the big land as the innu call it.

First 660kms is over. Waiting on the ferry now. Gps on my phone never missed a beat for my speed thankfully. Thxs Fab454 for pointing that out. Truck didn't like the hammering of the dirt road much tho. Don't know what's wrong but she's running fine til you get into the throttle. She refuses to rev high and bogs.

I can't help with your Speedo issues, but your truck is beautiful! Love to see more pictures.

Thxs bud. She is buried in snow now. I'll get some when it's nice out.

She made the trip. 1600kms no issues, well she was freezing up at one point it got that cold. My containers of gas line antifreeze were turned to slush. Couldn't go over 80kmph. After the ferry she must of been thawed out and was good to go again.

Am I reading it correctly that you have been using the factory speedometer and cluster?
If so, then you haven't had a VSS for the TBI at the cluster, at least..
Which should mean that you can install the cluster and add the VSS later.

I've been using the cluster with the vss. That's the one that has the needle broken off.
The spares don't have the plug in for it so I need to find another.
