well, I blew up my rear end this weekend on my 91 jimmy. now i need some help... I plan on going ahead and replacing both front and rear axles with something stronger. problem is.... with what?
i want to pick up a front and rear set from my buddy's boneyard (cuz it's cheap! i.e free) but i need some idea of what years and models have stronger stuff so i can call and tell him what to look for.
I would also like to hear some pros and cons.
also what is the differance between a semi float and a free floater?
I really need a diff lesson!

well, first I would learn how to search... the diff lesson will come shortly after that.

Otherwise, what are plans for the truck? Daily Driver? Trials? Mud? Rocks? Trailer Queen? budget? be a little more descriptive of what you are working with.

daily driver 2-3 times a week, weekend mudding, i can get the boneyard parts free and the do a rebuild if needed.

my 25dollars was worth every penny. and 2-3times a week is not a DAILY driver.

seriously though...if you wanna keep 6lug, look for a SF14bolt out of a 2500LD pickup(4x4 preferably) and basically bolt her right in...oh yeah, one more little thing, make sure the gears match front to back. that wouldn't be pretty. good luck man!!!

Hey, what's up K5Monster  !

Good to see you visit!

And, also second that, on the search aspect :wink1: !

theres everything about a 14bff ull ever need to know.
a semifloat is just like your 10 bolt but with bigger shafts and comes in 8 lug and 6 lug styles.
you can turn a 14bff to 6 lug but it involves some work.

as for the front if your looking to upgrade u can either go 3/4 D44 which is a 8 lug d44, a dana 60(which is pricey but if you can get one outta ur buddies yard pick it up quick) http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/60_front/index.html
^^thats everything ull need to know about d60s^^

or you can just stick with whatever you have up front now. someone said it earlier and definetly make sure your gears match.

now im sure i didnt get some of this right(i tend to get things wrong when i try to explain stuff:doah: ) but it should give u a nudge in the right direction

and also a membership will help immensly. im gettin mine next week

thanks burbanbeast and maroon, just what i needed.

as for not getting a membership.... i'm not sure if i will now... no one seems to want to help you if you dont, and i thought the whole point of these sites was to talk about these fine rigs and help those who needed help and want to learn more. but aparrently it's just to chastise those who have not decided if the want to join yet. to those who helped me,thank you. and to those who didn't, kiss my @ss.

and just so you know... i can search on here without membership, but i was asking an opinion about what ya'll thought would work out best in my specific situation.
