Griff's thread about nothing in particular.

I'm running 3.73's on my build, mostly because it was what I had and it works out well for a driver build. Deep gears are wonderful things for crawling around in the woods but having owned many trucks with 4.56 in them I'll pass. Combine that with everything in Montana being an hour away, whatever I build has to be able to cruise on the hwy as well as make it through the bush.

I've been considering regearing the silver Dodge to 4.56, It's got 3.55's now, (I misspoke earlier when I said 3.73) and while it's not hurting for power, it has a bad habit of going in and out of overdrive on the highway around 65-70, where in overdrive it cruises around 1600 RPM. I've read that similar trucks (360, 46RH, 231HD,) feel very comfortable with 4.56's and 33-35's, staying around 2100 RPM in overdrive at 70, and obviously has way more "go" around town. Not to mention the strain taken off the trans.

As for the Blazer, It does in fact have 3.42's, but rather than regearing the 10 bolts, I figured I'd just wait until they let go and then try to find a pair of 4.10 geared 3/4 ton axles, or at least a 4.10 14 Bolt, and then regear the front.

I don't think I would ever re-gear axles to 3.73 but for my combo it works out well. Diesel/400 turbo and about a 34" tire. I wish they were 4.10 but it is what it is, the truck was geared 3.73 and I happened to have a 14 bolt with the same already setup and ready to go. No muss, no fuss.

Anyone have a pair of 81-newer K5 Blazer fender emblems or a roll bar for a 76-newer Blazer they'd part with?

LS thoughts are swirling, I found several on CL for less than what I was planning on putting into the small block that's in the Blazer.

If I went that route, I'm unsure as to whether It'd be cheaper to try and make it work with the factory PCM, or just put a 4 bbl intake and an ignition box on it.

I was probably going to be putting $700-$800 into the SBC, and I've found complete LS engines as cheap as $400, What do we think?

I think I've lined up the basics to make it run and drive with the factory EFI setup.

Dirty Dingo motor mounts
Make a conventional cable throttle work
Newer EFI fuel pump
An adapter to mate the LS to the TH400
Reflashing the PCM
And maybe an electric fan

What did I miss?

What would be needed to make the gauges work? Or is that a lost cause? I've got the cluster out of an 89 K5 from the junkyard, if it would help any.

Tranny will bolt up just fine. It's the bolt pattern on the converter that's not the same. A speed sensor will need to be added somewhere for it to function correctly. The LS can run two fans separately, which is nice. The gauges are no problem.

Yeah don't go doing an LS swap if you're going to pull the injection off.
If you wanna be like that, leave the 305 in it

Part of me wants to go ahead and order a lift, and another part of me doesn't because it will just make the engine work all that much harder.

Harder to reach anyway.

After checking some prices, If I go LS, It'll definitely stay fuel injected.

Hmm.
