It is the way I'm leaning...Personally I think I like the older one. The later ones seemed to be GM faking out buyers into thinking they were the newer vehicles. GM did similar on the last year G-bodies. I know people really seem to like that style, but to me they just appear to be an attempt to wring some sales out of the last few years of the body style, and I think that the somewhat more modern design is what draws people to it...it looks more like other vehicles that are newer.
Subtle front end changes from year to year were done of course, but not to that extent. Just how I see it.
Ya I know... I have the entire front clip off a 90 suburbanif you do a lot of night time driving go with the vertical 4 headlight . more light and better bulb upgrade options .
if pure looks department i love the 89-91 gmc cat eye grills .
fyi you do know its 2 totally different core supports for them and also 89-91 its gmc or chevy for all 3 parts of the grill center and headlight bezels .
Who the heck let you in here?Round headlights for life.
I'm doing the same. Prepping a stacked headlight core support for a swap into my 91. Get that gmt400 lookin crap out of heeeeeere!!!
Alot of people really like the late grille though. Should be an easy sale.

Edit: Not saying I despise the newer front end, just that I don't think it's as good a fit with the body style. Makes me think of the non-metal era...plastic mirrors, chrome plated plastic, everything snaps together instead of bolted/screwed, etc.
