Grille Repainting

So it's my understanding that something like Moeller's Zinc Chromate primer is a good idea for rust repair / priming bodywork. What about for the plastic front grille? Mine is in great physical shape, no cracks, dings, chrome is still good, etc.. but the painted parts are fading and chalking a little.

Is there a "gotta have" type of primer / paint to use on it? How about prep process? I did a little research via Google so far, but I know we have some resident paint experts here, and I'm more inclined to trust your opinion over the rest of the internet. I really don't want to use spray paint or something on it and then find out I just ruined the plastics, since I have been unable to locate a GMC replacement grille in really good condition.

Plastic is pretty easy to paint. Clean it, light scuffing with relatively fine grit paper, primer and paint. Spray paint is fine, how it will look is all reliant on your prep work, patience, and technique. I did mine with Rust-Oleum matte black paint and I like it.

I did mine with Krylon Fusion about a year ago. it seems to be holding up fine.

scrub it with a scuff pad and hot soapy water.. than do it again.. rinse thoroughly.. let dry...

the mallard makes me smile every day... best $150 toy I've ever bought... I'm very happy with how the front came out, color combo, emblem, etc...

down the road at priority #73 is to make a bumper for it... but that is WAY down my list of schit..
