Just ordered myself a set of remanned injectors for the 6.2. I'm fairly certain that my existing injectors shoot out like spooge because i think they're the OEM ones. :doah:should help with my smoky start ups, power, and fuel economy. I was going to tear into my axles and start crossover this weekend, but i kinda want to drive the truck with the new injectors which come in on monday... so, I'll wait on crossover... which is fine, because I don't actually have any parts for it yet. :haha:

Are those the same injectors you had in there when you rebuilt the motor? The same ones that you gassed us out with here during the Martinez mine run? :doah:

yup! :haha:

what exactly are you referring to tho? i never started it cold while we were wheelin - you must not have been used to the smell of a man's exhaust back then. then you came over to the light and got hooked on the diesel... :haha:

yes. i said you are now hooked on a man's exhaust. that is funny.

Your injectors must've been pissing streams back then too, because you definitely had some incomplete combustion going on :tongue1: Either that or your 'stat was hanging wide open and she was never warming up. IDI's generally don't stink much when everything is up to snuff :deal:

well, i know i've had problems with the tstat too, but i can't remember if i'd fixed it before or after that trip. i think it was after that trip tho. i'm pretty sure it needs another new one tho. not really sure what's going on there. the truck is going down for a few months while i do crossover and work on the axles some, so the front clip is coming off to make access easier which will make for a great time to change the tstat. ;)

what does IDI refer to?

Indirect Injected ;)

My 6.2L smokes a bunch at idle too, all incomplete combustion as well. Once you get going at bit and raise the exhaust temps it clears right up and does not smell as bad anymore. The guys always make me wheel at the rear cause I make their eyes burn idling around on the trails, lol

A few things can cause that. Worn injectors, improper injector timing, worn IP, low compression, low engine temp, and low cetane fuel.

I'm curious - are you guys running 180 degree t-stats by any chance?

mine is supposed to be 190, but it registers at 210 on the guage when i'm cruisin around. in the past, it's dropped way low when wheelin. what's the ideal temp? i like the 210.

so tell me, do i really need the fluted special 30 mm socket for the new injectors? also, can someone hook me up with a torque spec on these suckers? thanks!

190-215. Less than 180 is getting too cold, and more than 220 is getting too hot. Factory AC Delco t-stats were 195, and IMO they are more reliable than the aftermarket units.

Do you have AutoZone up there? They carry Great Neck brand tools, and their regular 1/2" drive 30mm socket is fluted in all six corners. Cost was definitely under $10.

I have no idea what the torque spec is - my service manual is at a friends house. German torque should be fine, but I wouldn't go over 80ft-lbs.

not sure what the phrase "german" torque is. thanks for letting me know about the autozone tool. i bet i can find one here. ;) 'preciate the help.

The 6.2 in my K5 didn't have a T-stat. In traffic idling around, the temp would drop to 150 quite often. Hottest I ever saw was about 205.

My pick-up has a 195F T-stat and it runs about 200 everywhere. Thinking back this is prolly why i got complaints on the trail and would often see smoke from the exhaust when wheeling (crawling=cold temps=unburnt fuel)

when i put these guys in the engine, should i put any sort of sealer, lube or anything on the threads?

Anti-seize would probably be good for the threads. But I don't know if the manual calls anything out in particular.

What Kenny and Rene said. New copper washers definitely, and just a touch of anti-sieze never hurts.
