**grin** re: injectors, now with question.

yep, i got the new washers too. spent an hour or so driving to the nearest autozone. :doah: suckage. i love the small town 99% of the time, but not when i have to drive an hour to buy a damn socket.

I ended up making one out of a 6 point deep 1 1/8" impact socket...using a carbide burr and my die grinder. I had an old spare injector lying around to keep checking with...

Did they have the ones like I got, with flutes in each corner?

Sorry to hijack here, but i just replaced the t-stat in my 6.2 after i got the truck out from sitting for 10 years and when it warms up it stays at about 165 - 170 all the time. is that ok? I bought it at a local parts store, i belive it is a Stant. When i start mine up i get some blueish smoke out the exhaust then it clears up after a couple of minutes at idle. I'm thinking about putting in new injectors in when i get some extra money, they are the original ones with 114,000 miles on them. Once again sorry for hijackin your thread.

that blue-gray smoke is unburned fuel in a cold cylinder. pretty normal for these engines.

so, it wasn't a difference of nite and day - but it is noticeably better on start up. i'm not sure how many gp's i've got dead right now - but i think it's 3, which would make a significant difference on start up. i think i was going thru plugs quick because i had to use them so much to get the truck running due to the jacked up injectors. i'm not going to replace the gp's till after i put the crossover on, because i'm going to park this rig and not drive it while i work on that over this winter...

thanks for all the help!

Max, to answer your question, I am running a 195 degree AC-Delco stat in my 6.2L. It runs about 200 degrees at all times. The injection timing is a bit advanced to try and pick up some power, along with a slight increase in fuelling. Its the worst when you are just idling around, but will continue to smoke if you are keeping it in 2nd gear / low range at about 1500 rpm or so.

Once I hit the highway again and start driving normally, the bluish grey smoke dissapears right away, only coming back as a very light bluish / black haze if you've got it pinned trying to keep speed up a hill.

Once you idle for a few minutes, the smoke comes back again, and doesn't go away till you start to move again.

I know the engine is a bit low on compression, it does have around 200 000 miles on it.

Yeah, everything needs to be in good shape or you will get the idle smokies, whether it is an IDI or a DI. A slight haze at WOT seems normal for the NA motors.

Is there any where local I can get these copper washers? I want to get them in this weekend. They have anything special about them or are they just a regular old copper washer?
