Its a 91 cc bb all stock except for a recent 4 inch left. The truck is making a hellish noise while on the beach at times. I have a new front driveshaft, the exhaust is not hitting, and the both u joints look good. The old driveshaft was siezed solid hence the replacement. What kind of damage can that do to a transfercase and or ring and pinion? It doesnt do it constantly, only when bouncing/torquing up.Also doesnt do it in 2wd. thanks

Check your front hub bearings, jack it up in front and wiggle the wheels by hand. They may have had a sand incursion.

When mine did something similar to what you're describing, i found that the transfer case/transmission mount was broke, it lets the whole assembly lift up while on the throttle. I've had it happen a few times, the last time was when I was in Moab several years ago.

It raises up the whole assembly in the rear, tilting the front of the transfer case downwards and the front driveshaft is actually rubbing on the crossmember.

I would also check your spring bushings, make sure they're in good shape. Lube them up if they're in good shape, if they're shot then you know what you have to do.

Dropped the front dif cover and drained transfercase,no chunks in either one. New springs, bushings, carrier bearing, front driveshaft. I crawled under and could find no signs of binding or scraping on anything. Tomorrow I will do some more testing.

Check for rubbing from the balancer on the crossmember and check for the CV rubbing on the crossmember.

I see no rubbing of any kind. Todays testing results
no noise 2wd
noise in both 4wd high and low hubs locked
noise in 2wd hubs locked
no noise 2wd either hub unlocked
I guess tomorrow I pull the front shaft. Man it really sounds like a bad slip joint but its brand new and tight>

are you doing this on flat ground and it's making noise?

I ask, is because the only time mine would ever have that grinding and rubbing of the cross member is when I was under throttle load and usually with a decent amount of torque. It took me awhile to see the issue, the rubbing was not very noticeable, very little marks on the driveshaft, not the CV.

Quite possibly something wrong with your transfer case though if it's only in 4wd. maybe a bearing or something on the front shaft side?

Coming in late, but before you pull the shaft, try this.
2wd, hubs unlocked, grab the front shaft and turn it paying attention to the output of the transfer case.
I had the yoke nut get loose on my 205 and some mud got into the output bearing. It would only make the grinding noise when the front shaft was spinning.

If it sounds good, jack up one front wheel at a time, engage the hub, t-case in 2wd, and spin the tire.
You may have a bad spindle bearing on one side. `

Went under today with a good flashlight and some time and lo n behold found the washers from the c/v bolts rubbing crossmembers. Just barely and cant see where, but had some shiny spots. I took the washers off and the noise changed and got better. So I guess I am purchasing a new tranny mount.any preferences? Thanks for everyones help. Scott
