is in n and i try to put it in park. it didnt grind with the tranny in n, r or d but i went to put it in park and i got a slight grinding

Sounds like it's not going all the way into neutral.

Sounds like some of the transmission internals are still turning,
and when you try to engage park, the pawls are sliding against
the lock cage. especially if you're going from drive or reverse.

With the trans in netural, there is nothing to keep the output shaft of the trans from turning. You must have the tcase in gear before you put a running truck with an auto into park, or risk damaging your parking pawl.
