Gawsh I swear :mad1: I just put a newer axle in this thing (75 k5) ....10 blt 350 350 203.. try to get it out there in a feild and into 4wd,ran great in 2wd, go thru the sequence .....neutral, lock hubs, into 4L and ,then D...I just hear alot of grinding, never goes into 4wd,so I shut it off ,reverse the sequence, and try to get it into 2wd just to get home and it dosent want to go in ANY gear.eventually I get it into regular D and get home.it runs fine in 2wd all the way home....do I have a broken case????? Frt Axle is new, hubs are new, trans is fine in all other gears......... yeeeee!:haha::thumb: I just want to wheel, but NOPE!

Gear ratios? Mine did that when got it. Mine had a driver side shift fork and different gear trios.

So she was in drivers seat w both ft on the breaks and e brake on......the -slipping-sound -....... looks like its comming from the FRONT of t case right before the output yoke for front shaft...(inside the case).......Its definitely making bad noises from that sopt only.however,I can actually see the driveline spin pretty fast while in D, STOPPED, when she lets off the brake and the truck rolls slowly forward, that's when it makes bad sounds..... .all comming from that same spot. Inside case before front shaft!:thumb:

Also, the tabs are lined up in perfect unison, on the linkage.I was hoping it would of ben an adjustment. On linkage, but don't think so.........

If the driveline is spinning when the truck isn't in motion ... something is wrong. You SURE the hubs are locked? I know we PM'd about this, but if the driveshaft is spinning when the axle isn't, something is open, unlocked, or broken.

Hubs were OPEN at that time......

That's normal then.

The brakes don't work on the driveshaft, they work on the wheels, so if you unlock the hubs, the driveshaft will spin freely if you try for 4WD.

Once it's spinning, you gotta shut the motor off in order to switch back to 2WD.

It seems like mabey, just mabey, once everything is locked up, t case gets under load, .......... THEN makes the great sounds.Something wrong in case, sounds like something wrong.

Well, the NP203 shifters are complicated and can require adjustment. There's also several bolts in there, as I recall, which if they go loose can royally muck things up. I vaguely recall driving to Blazer Bash '03 in my Chalet with a bungee cord keeping the shifter from rattling :haha:

If it were me I'd use this as an excuse to twin stick it, but it's this sort of thinking that has made my truck into a driveway ornament :doah:

So, the hubs are locked, you put the t-case shifter all the way forward for Low-Loc or 4Lo, and then when you put the tranny into drive, the truck doesn't move, it grinds?

I'd say then, yeah, the t-case shifter needs adjusting ... search on it, I'm no bloody help as I don't have a '203 any more :haha:

With the hubs locked, it'd then work just like it did from the factory -- '203 equipped trucks originally came with slugs, i.e. hubs that don't unlock.

You should be able to shift from HI to HI LOCK or LOW to LOW LOCK while moving without taking the transmission out of gear or putting it in neutral. The only time you have to stop and put it in neutral is to go from HI to N to LOW.

Which transmission do you have?

Fir GIT this 203, already have a 205 w adapter,crossmember,AND drivelines,for a good deal for a great deal actually,right here from ck5 thanks again Ck5! !!!!:saweet::saweet::saweet: its 205 time!!!!!!

Your profile makes it look like a TH350? Don't use the transmission neutral, put rather put it in park! The grinding comes from the fact that the automatic transmission is turning in neutral and not allowing you to complete the shift on the transfer case.

Whel, even when I had it in gear and locked it just clanked and banged ,I'm thinkin that its just toast.........

:doah: I totally forgot about this when I told the OP about shifting ... :doah:

Though I think he tried shifting in park too...
