Ground Hawgs Back From The Dead!

I was never really a GH fan but I always thought the 17/40 size had a fantastically sticky look for a big tire.

I won’t be getting rid my Boggers but if I ended to replace them I would probably get the 17/40’s, especially if they turn out to be radials.

I wish I could have bug they financed about half of my new set up.

Interco has been reproducing Ground Hawgs under the Cobalt name for a while BUT they just released a non ghetto, old school size - a 15/38.5R15 radial!

Do we need to make another trip to Rayne, LA ??? For thirty-five years you have been drool’n over a 17/40 fat-n-round ( well, supposed to be round ) sized tire - it will be the late 80’s & early 90’s all over again but with radial Hawgs ! Damn, we’re gett’n old…

The Interco Cobalt M/T is a modern, radial light truck tire
The 38.5 weighs 120lbs and seems to be load range E, which makes you wonder how stiff the sidewall is. 1 size available for 15s, 1 for 17s, but don't worry...the nostalgia crowd is covered with multiple sizes for 20, 22, 24" wheels :surepal:. Looks like the knobby sidewall treatment is only for the sizes that have sidewalls (sarcasm intended), because there are clearly 2 designs pictured.

Yeah, I don't understand making these tires in 20"+ wheel sizes. They are clearly a nostalgia design.

This does not address the radials but might shed some light on the offering of 10-ply E-Load Range 15” & 20” rim sizes - several of our Al-terrain four wheel drive hydraulic extendable boom lifts and man-buckets at work use a Interco TSL 39.5’s with a 15” wheel. These have no wheel area mounted brakes and are driven by individual hydraulic pumps/electric motors with planetary gear reduction at each wheel so they fit inside with no problem - the really big ones with 120’ boom reach use 20” wheels and come with real damn aggressive tread patterns ( some look very close to G/H’s tread pattern) but minimal sidewall for less deflection and no use of outriggers when possible.
Might explain the ghetto sizes on such a purpose driven tread design and why it’s marketable to offer them nowadays…just a thought…I’ve been wrong before.

I remember seeing the smaller GH’s on offroad forklifts. The 3 wheel kind that mount to the back of construction materials delivery trucks.
