Grrrr freaking tach! *figured out what the bump is*

Your idle in park figure seems high.
Check your TV cable setting. That first shift is too high and if the cable isn't set correctly say goodbye to that 700R4.
Everything else sounds about right.

I wish I could sit in the engine bay! I have seen guys sit on the inner fenderwell in my truck before but I can't seem to squeeze myself in there...haha but then again I'm 6'-1" 240ish and he was 5'6" 150lbs soaking wet haha.

But yeah I do end up working on all the "hard" stuff like wiring to the back dark reaches of the engine bay late at night :)

You can't fit between the fenders because of all the emission crap Cali requires...

I could put 2 people under my hood and close it. Of coarse the fan might be a bit dangerous... :p:

BTW: I hope you didn't put in the Autozone special Sunpro tach, they are terrible quality. I am on my 4th one in my truck and all of them have gone within 1 year and still warentied though...

Theres plenty room in mine, not comfortably but close enough. I could fit 2 if I didnt have my PA and my airhorn and compressor in there. I hit my hand on the fan (wrist really) and it didn't do anything (dont ask me how/why :doah:). I think the 7 blade fans might be a little weaker than the 4 (or is it 5?) blade fans. My buddy truck has the 4 blade and it cut right thru the shroud and my shroud fell on the blades and bent them easily with no damage to the shroud. It doesnt really matter any of that but I thought it was interesting

Well you see I have a flex fan with thin aluminum blades that WILL do damage if you get to close to it and it set up to always spin with no clutch. I accidentally dropped my timing light in it, and damn I was lucky my hand wasn't still on it! :eek1: Its also sucked in rags and a whole roll of paper towels before too. Maybe I just need a fan shroud... :doah:

Check it out after I went too deep into a water hole:

yeah I need to look into adjusting that TV cable...I've said it a million times and I'm sure I sound like a broken record but its slipping badly...years and years w/ 3.08's and 38.5's did her in :)
But I'll give it a shot...it can't hurt.

I'll get pics up soon for ya' Chris.

Oh and yeah Chevy305 it is :(....they said that if anything ever went wrong just bring it in and they'd swap it out.

Sounds like your transmission isn't shifting into overdrive anymore. It should be closer to 1700 rpm in O/D at 65 mph with your gears and tires...

And Chevy305 -- Be careful with those fans! They have a tendancy to fly apart at high rpms, implanting those blades through fenders, hoods, and whatever else happens to be in their way, lol

no it is...its just slipping a lot...
I noticed a huge difference when I wen't to these 4.10's compared to the 3.08's :)

The only other thing that I can think of is if I'm feeling the torque converter lock up (I feel it shift through 1, 2 and 3 then at about 70 I feel something else....) so I don't know if thats shifting into OD or if the torque converter is locking up....when it happens I take off so it could be either one I guess.

With 37s and 4.10s I turn aboot 1800 at 70 MPH in OD and about 2600 in 3rd when the torque converter locks up when it is unlocked it is about 2000 in OD and 2900 in 3rd. Also if I floor it from a dead stop it will shift into 2nd right at 4000. There is a valve in the tranny that if the throttle is more than 1/2 open the tranny will "flair" slightly on the shift into 2nd. Not sure why GM did that but they did. I found if I let of the gas right before the shift it will slam into 2nd and shift really nice:D .

With those RPMs it does sound like your tranny is done for or it is not shifting into OD. Are you sure it is in OD and not 3rd? Mine will be running right around 3K unlocked in 3rd and the when it locks it feels like a shift but Rs only drop about 200-300.

lol...duh brothers...I have sounded like a broken record around here with this tranny...everyone says stuff like, "oh its not gone if you can still drive like blah blah blah"...I'm like w/e though...I know its slipping like crazy.

yeah mine does that as well....if I let off at about 3,500 it'll slam into 2nd really hard...

I just wanted to make sure you were not mistaking a shifting characteristic of the 700R4 for tranmission slippage.:waytogo: I personally think my 700 is on borrowed time with the 4.10s that I run. I will go with a 465 shortly.

Cool...thanks.

Ok so this morning I had more time to observe whats going on with my rpm's on the long freeway drive to school.
So here is the weird thing...that last "bump" that I feel that I couldn't figure out if its shifting into OD or if its the torque converter locking up...today I watched my tach and when it does it the rpm's actually increase from about 2,700 to 3,000.
My spedo says that I'm doing 70mph....then I feel w/e it is...and I go up to about 85mph...now we all know the spedo isn't correct but it is still a way to see the correlation between whatever is happening....
So....bump...speed increase...rpm increase....any ideas?

I figured out what the "bump" was yesterday...its b/c my gears are marginal (4.10's for 38.5's) so what is happening is the tranny is in OD but if I get into the throttle to speed up or I am going up an incline on the freeway the bump is the tranny actually downshifting back into 3rd.
The RPM's go from about 3,050 at 70mph to 2,100 when I'm in OD...so when I feel the bump I see the tach jump back up to around 3,050 so I know thats what it is...then when I get back on flat ground I can let off the throttle for a sec and get back in it (just barely like I have to do to shift from 1st to 2nd) and it'll kick it back into OD and the rpm's will drop back to around 2,100. :)

Just thought I'd share.

So I am thinking 4.88's would be nice down the road.
