GTM400 / GTM800 now collectable?

My GMT 800 2500 HD is a great, solid truck. Drives well and works well. The gas mileage sucks. 10 mpg on the 6.0. Runs like a champ, pulls great, just stop at every gas station. I don't feel like it would ever be collectable, its just a good working truck.
How do you manage only 10? I get an average of 13-14ish out of my 6.0.

Not sure. Gauges say 10.2 mpg on the way into town tonight. I should calculate it by hand on the next tank. 2500 extended cab 4x4 with a flatbed. Slightly oversized tire. Recent tune up and no codes.
 
I owned a '00 Tahoe and now have a '12 Silverado 6.2. After owning both gens I would say the 800 is a better overall truck and I'd say the peak of simple but smart layout, just enough tech to be reliable and convenient but not over complicated.

GMT900 Positives:
I'll say the ride, handling and braking is better in the GMT900 with the struts and rack and pinion steering over the torsion bars in the GMT800.
6L80 transmissions were a big improvement over the 4L60s, although the factory tuning is lazy.
6.2L trucks had no DOD/AFM and are powerful, however are hard to find and was only available in higher trims.

GMT900 Negatives:
The 900s interiors don't wear nearly as well as the 800s with the brittle plastic dashes and HVAC buttons that wear the print off of them in short order.
5.3L AFM/DOD lifter failures
Crew cab trucks actually have a small back seat and not a ton of room to get your feet in and out of the doors.
Daytime running lights are just the headlights so they constantly blow headlight bulbs (2014+ trucks have the same problem) plus it's so much harder to change headlight bulbs in these over the 800s. They literally had such a great design on the 800s, why did they complicate things?
