guage modifications

Here's the final results after a late night of wiring.

The check engine light looks pretty nice, even though the camera picture makes it out to be a bit too bright. It's a lot nicer than the extra LED I was using under the dash.

I also re-calibrated the speedo to match my gears using the method Autometer suggested and it was really easy. It works great now with no bouncing needle or guessing what my actual speed is by multiplying by 7% whenever I see a cop. If I get one less speeding ticket because of that it has paid for itself.

Dude, that is nice. Dumb question here. It looks like you cut the dash lens for just the speedo, and the guage lenses off the rest of them? Just trying to figure out if that's something I'm capable of doing.

You have it right. Cutting the guages is easy as you just slice off around the silver edge on the back side and the face then comes off.

I did it all of the mods with a dremel so it's not difficult. Just get one of the metal or plastic cutoff wheels for the dremel and it cuts fine. I then smoothed it out with a little grinder bit.

Looks real nice. If I ever get my K20 back on the road I have an electric speedo to go in it that will let me know my real speed - that will be nice.

Sweet. Great thread, thanks for the info. I'm going to start accumulating parts.
