Crawling around under my truck today and this is what I see. I guess suspension and driveline bolts aren't the only things to check. 3 out of 6 :(

Looks like urethane motor mounts? They are stiffer than rubber and can cause bolts to loosen if they weren't tight enough to begin with.

I think the bolts were original also. I think they had the teeth on the flanges underside IIRC. I tighten them down really good the first time. I more than likely put antiseize on them, which ended up hurting me I'm sure.

What would anyone recommend I do to stop this? Not sure if I wanna use locktite, maybe silicon. Dunno

a fresh lock washer is all I ever run on those... they don't need locktite..

Deff dont use red loctite, unless you want to sell that motor with the truck.

You should be able to just use a split lock washer and that would be enough, thats all I use.

I prefer Locktite. I hate how a lock washer leave a raised very sharp gouge of steel on a surface. Stage 8 had special locking bolts/washers for applications like that I believe.

this is being WAY overthought.. it's a motor mount, not a flywheel spinning 10 grand...

Fastenal, who sells split lock washers, Will tell you Not to use them. they say in all the tests done they dont provide any real protection from loosening. We've had to take fastener classes that they put on at work. They say the loctite is better.

no factory chevy ever had loctite on those 3 motor mount bolts.. it's not the freakin space shuttle...

I can't believe I have to argue such a ridiculous thing...

your right they didnt.... I myself dont use either:rolleyes: I just tighten everything structural within an inch of its life:thumb:. No the right way I know, but I never really keep anything long enough for it to matter:doah:

Oh come on guys. I tighten my sh** down. Dunno how (other than vibration I guess) that I lost 3 out of 6 bolts. :( the rest of the truck seems to be holding together :)

I lost some of my bellhousing to trans bolts after my first install. I may have used the wrong length bolts. No issues since I used longer.

I also kept having the diff cover on my 14SF loosen up.

In your case, is the engine side of the mount thicker than what GM used? From what I can see it is probably at least twice as thick.

What I found with the 14SF cover bolts is that when the bolts were shorter than original (no idea why the PO used shorter ones) they would continually work loose. Using thicker metal for your mount in effect does the same thing.

As an aside, I've stopped using split lock washers, the science isn't there. Absolute worst case, a tack weld will stop any loosening if it's in a location you can access enough to cut/grind if necessary.

Just bring the truck up here and daily drive it in the salt for a winter. Better than locktite.

I'm 3/6 for my motor mount bolts too, I have kert's poly motor mounts. I ran out of lock washers at 3 am the last night before I finished it up and they worked loose. Now that it's down for the count, I can get that fixed too!

Redneck torque wrench: turn it till it breaks, then back off half a turn.
