Has anyone added gussets to thier dana 60 knuckles? Im going hi steer/ crossover and hydro assist. I have been reading about the soft spot on the knuckles. Seems like an easy fix just to add a gusset from behind the stock tie rod on up to just below the new steering arms.
My main concern is can i use my mig and a piece on mild steel with out changing the temperment (making it brittle) of the casting or warpage.
Im pretty sure that they are not gray iron, and im thinking if I pre heat and cool properly it might work.
Im extremely leary of doing this because it is steering, has anybody done this succesfully?
Just a thought.

been done a lot of times.

You do have to know your **** to weld it. So, if you're a good welder, go for it. There's several pic's over on Pirate, and I'm sure there's some here too.

I believe the 60 knuckles are cast steel, so they ought to weld ok. Just need lots of pre-heat, and a long, slow cool down.

ballistic fabrication sells gussets cut for the 44 and the 60 knuckles

i bought them but wound up using them for seat mounts:doah:

Thanks for the response, I didnt mention this rig must go to and from the trail under it own power.

I dont see em on the website  Are you talking about inner c gussets? HOPPER is looking for something to strenghten the knuckles. Kert at DIY4X is currently working on something for this.

Yes, beefier knuckles. Without the aftermarket price tag.
No more opinion's?
I guess Ill start lookin for a spare set of knuckles.:doah:

Here's what STOMPER did to strengthen his Furd d60 knuckles. 1/4" plate added to the front, back, and outside toward the tire.
