Gut K5 tailgate or truck tailgate

huge difference in weight without the glass and gear thing....that freakin glass is heavy

I’ve seen the glass get broken one too many times on a factory K5 gate. A pickup gate for the win.

Are the LMC gates worth the $$? How about the Sherman? Or hold out for decent OEM?

Can you attach K5 weatherstripping to the truck gate?

LOL, most people that make the switch have also make a crawler out of the truck or changed to a soft top. Weather stripping not being important.

And I don't know myself lol. Isn't the blazer gate thicker? That would make me think no, the sealing area is different. But then again, my truck gate fell right into place, like maybe weather stripping would work. eF if I know, that was too long ago to remember.

yeah the Blazer tailgate is around 5" at the top (not exactly how close) and down to about 2" at the very bottom

During rust repair, I've heard of using square tube instead of replacing the tail pan. That sounds complicated because of the tailgate hinge mounts. It looks like it's much easier if you are going with a truck gate, as they only mount to the sides.

Anybody know if the pickup tail pan fits a K5? The tailgate post pieces have the same part number.

EDIT: the K5 version has cut-outs to go over the frame rails, so the pickup one won't fit the same.

When I get back to my K5 I am building a custom hatch to fit to the gate and factory top. Will be a Pefrect fitup. Won’t leak. I have plans. Plan to make them for this type conversion

You mean sell them? Surely you can help some CK5'ers out with your premise. I'd always thought the ideal way was a frame that slides in the existing window channel. Not having to cut the factory hard-top makes it less of a commitment. Although as the opening gets narrower, it gets harder to load big materials. It also might require a unique seal holder at the bottom. Would be sweet if could take a GM lock cylinder.

Another plus of the truck gate, if you run a body lift, you can't use the helper springs on the K5 gate! They get REAL heavy, with no helper springs!
