I recently decided to redo my motor better crank and bigger cam.. the machine shop found I had damaged on of my cylinders blown intake seal yay.. I was giving to options put a sleeve in.. or bore it bigger. I opted for a bigger bore. So my question is what is my new CI it was a 454 we bored it 60 over the first time and then this time 40 over the stroke is still 4 in. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks guys!

Damn, I thought I was bad with my grammar and leaving words out.
But something sounds fishy. Why would you sleeve a motor while a standard bore job would fix the problem. Sleeving a block is a option if the block have a severely damage cylinder or you are at max diameter bore. .060" should be no problem for a big block.

I understood he was .100" overbore now...which seems like a lot to me.

That's what I got out of it too. A lot of 454 blocks will go .100 with out any problems but it's about max for sure.

me too Rene'
Not saying it can't be done, (sonic test it) but depending on the block used, I was advised to only go .030 and save the rest for future boring if needed....

Yes indeed it sounds fishy to me as well... to add to the confusion the guy helping me build the motor says it is now a 546 .. I didn't even know you could go .1 over this is my first motor build and I don't know a ton about the specs part of the process yet. Again thanks for the help.

that would require a stroker crank as well, and 546 is an odd number

Very odd number indeed. I couldn't put that size together from any normal stroker crank and bore that I know of.

I misread the sentence. I thought he offset grind the crank .040. Bring .100 over bore did cross my mind. So, .100 over bore and still have 4." stroke.

I still think sleeving the block at this point is overkill and not really worth it for common stock block. .100" over is about the max depending on the block.

One more question by chance is it possible to change the CI by changing the piston length?

No. Cubic inches is determaned by bore x stroke x number of cylinders. Piston length, rod length ect have no effect on CI.

Seems like a ton of overbore. This does not make a 546 and the would have to
Be a lottery custom stuff to make a displacement that size. 476 sounds about right after its put together though. Different length piston and rods would make compression changes not a bigger displacement.
