I have kicked around the idea of getting recentered Hummer rims for the Jimmy a few times but, I don't like the inserts I've seen for them.
Stock inserts (that I know of):
two piece rubber run flats (run flat feature=unnecessary weight)
two piece magnesium run flats (look like a royal PITA to me)
one piece rubber run flats (run flat feature=unnecessary weight, and they are a pain to get in/out of the tire!)
After market inserts (that I know of):
PVC (if you can find some, but if they brake no way to replace any more (IIRC USA 6X6 and Dean Reed were the only people that made them?)) (they look like a PITA to use since PVC won't flex a ton before breaking?)
Metal (look like a PITA to use, having to cut and weld each time you remount)

Is there some magically delicious insert I have missed out on? The one I wish somebody made would be a non runflat style one piece rubber insert like the one Hutchinson uses in their Rockmonster rims. Considering they make Hummer inserts anyway, you'd think they'd make some! Rockmonster link:

I like the looks and the design of the Rockmonsters but, I don't want to run aluminum beadlock rims, I'd rather run steel Hummer rims.
Seems to me there'd be a good market for a beefy one piece rubber (non runflat) insert, since lots of people run Hummer rims. Does anybody make one?

I bought some PVC type years ago from CJdean I think his name is on pirate. Don't know how they would ever fail...

I'll have to check it out, thanks bro!

I've got a friend that had one fail inside his tire while driving down the street. I've looked at them, they look like they'd work all right, just seems like something a bit thicker and less brittle (ie rubber) would work better. They seemed to me to have a bit thin of edges and seem a bit hard to get into the tires. No doubt though, they definitely do work! They are my favorite of the options that I have found, I just worry about replacement if one breaks. I know USA 6X6 made them and so did Dean Reed but, USA 6X6 went out of business and (AFAIK) Dean Reed discontinued making plastic ones and switched to the metal ones. I'll look up that name on Pirate, thanks bro!

cjdean on pirate is Dean Reed

I have some 6x6 inserts, not the blue/green pvc ones but the black more flexible ones. I haven't heard of anyone ever breaking one, only thing I can think of is if the bead of the tire was too fat and bolting the wheels together put too much stress on them:dunno:. Stazworks has the type I have for $50 each http://www.stazworks.com/hummer.htm

Pretty sure the metal ones Dean sells bolt together so no cutting and welding, I have heard lots of good things about his customer service too

:D I just found that same page and was gonna post a link to it, LOL! I'd never seen the thinker ones from USA 6X6, only the thinner ones, white PVC. These look A LOT thicker! How have yours been working out for ya? How long have ya had 'em? They look like a good way to go, thanks bro!

I'll have to take another look at Dean Reeds, last I heard they had to be welded together but, that was a few years ago. Does he have a website?

Mine are working great, I have had them a little over a year now with no issues and the wheels have been apart a few times. They are flexible enough that they aren't a huge pain in the ass to get in.

Here is Deans site http://www.kickassoffroad.com/kick_ass_offroad_final_002.htm

The last set we made, my BOL bought some HDPE pipe with 16.5" ID and cut it to approximate length then had them lathed down smooth. Then, took a router and routered the sharp edges off. Ended up paying around $50 for all 4.

I do have some rolls of UHMW laying around that could possibly work

I thought the civilian H1 had an internal bead lock only. No runflat(might have been an option??). As in only a 1" thick piece of rubber that was a bit eisier to put in than the runflat type(1 piece or 2 piece).

Dunno, I thought they all had run flats or no beadlocks at all (both setups were optional on civvies) but, IDK if they had the option of non runflat beadlocks?

Thanks for all the info y'all!

I do not know if mine are civilian or military but they are just like you describe.
I used to run homemade pvc rings before and no troubles.
When I got my 12 bolts the rubber rings were included :D
