I started cutting up the run flats today when I got tired of pulling the bumpers and winch out.

I realized I need a better saw as my black and decker gator just ain't "cuttin it". I guess I should just take them work and use the band saw.

Second observation is my flap disc did not grind the excess down well at all, but then again it is a HF grinder with HF disc:o.

And finally the composition of the runflat is such that it will not burn but when put to a flame the shavings acted like a sparkler and immediately stopped sparking when the flame was taken away. The science class was conducted using my Bernzo-matic propane torch.

Also the one half I did cut must have hit something because the RF portion was bent pretty badly.

I final rambling, for those that have cut down the mag runflats did you grind them smooth or just round off sharp edges?

Thanks

Ira

I just rounded of the sharp parts with a 80 grit dewalt flap disk. Easy work.

For the cutting, that was done with a Lennox blade on the sawzall. Again easy work.

And you can set a big chunk of it on fire, but I needed MAP gas to get it started, the propane would not do it.

I used a sawzal with a 12" long 8/12 tpi wood blade, cut it like butter. The easiest method for me was to put a wheel shell on a 5 gal bucket then put the runflat in place (bolted together), my wife rotated the runflat while I cut.

Like stated, an 80 grit flap disk on a 4.5" grinder worked great for smoothing out the runflat. I didn't take mine down flat, just got rid of the rough edges and tried to get all the ribs to an even height.
