I posted in the other section but not a lot of looking as of yet. I just recieved a set of one tons out of a DRW chevy. I want to put them under my blazer I just got. I have a set of H1 wheels and tires and I was wondering if I could use the DRW front axle without spacers or recentering the H1's? Also, can I switch hubs on the rear to do the same? I have another 14bolt that is wider, but it has the wrong gears in it.

Switching hubs on 14BFF's is not all it's cracked up to be, as the brakes need to move with the WMS. The flange that the brake backing plate bolts to is welded to the axle tube, so you'd need to cut it off and re-weld it to move it. (Also, given how it's VERY welded to the tube, you'd prolly need to cut the old one off and weld a NEW one on.)

If you're gonna do a disc conversion, you could get weld-on brackets (made to weld directly to the axle tube) and move the WMS at the same time. This is what I did when I converted my SRW 14bff to DRW, what I call 'stealth dually'. I actually kept the SRW hubs (slightly *wider*; DRW hubs would move the WMS *in*) but had to inboard the brakes for the deeper hat rotors.

In short, it's rarely as simple as just changing the hubs.

Thanks, I think I have the narrow 63" 14. I guess I will have to swap the gears from my van 14. Is this something I can do in a day? How hard is it to swap gears? Can I change the hub and add spacers more easily? I have never set up a rearend before.

I wouldn't use a van 14FF either. Still too narrow. You'd be much better off looking for the WIDE D70HD rear instead. This axle will still be stronger and safer than using spacers on any 14FF.

Random thought but anything preventing a guy from using a IFS body style dually's 14FF?

Spring perches and shock mounting issues, but otherwise doable.

Allegedly, a few old body styles duallies had the wide 14bff ca. 90-91, but I've only ever seen the IFS style.

Forgot about those. Yeah, go ahead and find one of these and use it.
My dad has this wide 14FF in his '97 crew dually 4x4.

What is the width of the wide D70? This one is I think 72" wms to wms. Will that be wide enough?

Around 3" to 4" narrower than a stock DRW D60 front. And this is with the stock DRW bearing hubs on the D70. Switching them over to the SRW 14FF hubs will put the width damn near the same as the front D60.
