my friend's '05 H2s engine just bit the dust after 175k miles. what should a new or rebuilt 6.0 cost? also, would anyone recommend swapping in a diesel? might be nice to put a 6.5td in it and get much better mileage.

That seems way low mileage to die... What happened?? Id look into a used one honestly.

he said the dummy light came on. he took it to the dealership and and limped in w/ the low oil pressure warning buzzing. they said the pressure was down to 6lbs and the engine was toast.

he was thinking of trading it in for something more economical so he doesn't want to spend the $4-5k for a new engine. i was thinking he should swap in the diesel.

Going to an old school diesel will be way more work than its worth to have a motor lacking power.

A dmax would be a direct bolt in, but depending on your location, the smog nazi's will be after you.

Good luck. VERY surprised to see that die so early....bad oil maintenance schedule?

i was thinking the dmax but i thought it would need the allison too, which would be too big for an H2. i thought the 6.5 would be a better fit.

DH, i doubt it was a lack maintenance. he's been around rigs and wheelin long enough and doesn't seem the type.

Duramax definitely does NOT bolt into an H2. Tons of work and custom fabrication involved.

I'd go with another 6.0L.

Why would a Dmax swap into an H2 be different than a swap into a burb or truck of that generation?

The front driveline is too light for the power the dmax makes, t-case needs to be updated, Allison fits fine, cooler stack is where most of the work is found beyond updating to the 2500hd front end. That intercooler does not fit in very easy.

There are a few h2 Duramax swap threads on the dieselplace.com forum, looks like a ton of work

Fair. But in terms of swapping the Dmax, Trans, Case, it's not impossible.

Just the details.

Going to an old school diesel just would't make sense. 6.0l replacement is the best bet

that's why i was thinking 6.5. i have a feeling he's just going to take the deal and trade it in w/ the dealership.

thanks for all the suggestions.
