If that's true, it's a damn shame. :(

No kidding. I have a yellow top that was in my mustang from 1998 till I rolled it. It took all that abuse then sat for a year till I put it in my trailer for the winch and still going strong. Have two reds in the truck for about 5 years as well. It's said when you find such a good product and then dick it up for profit:mad:

The yellow top in My truck is at least 7 years old. If I start the truck once a week its lucky. I have never had a problem with it no matter how long it sits. Or how much discharge it takes wheeling.

I have heard of problems lately though on the newer ones. I hope mine never craps out.

I was looking for a replacement for my DD 2500HD battery. The one in there came with the truck back in 03 and I don't trust batteries over 4 years old. So your saying my stock altenator if working right should be fine for an optima.

Yes. I'm not saying there's never any problems with Optima's, just that I've seen alot of them cooked with cheap reman'ed alternators or the wrong type of garage charger.

I have a 900CCA Everstart MAXX from Wally world. I have killed it dead leaving my headlights on all day. I got a jump and drove it home (volt meter read aboot 10 volts the whole way home) I also forgot the headlights a second time (damn you no headlight chime):D and killed it dead. I put it on a garage charger with a trickle and left it overnight. I have had no problems with the battery maintaining a charge what so ever once I learned to turn the headlights off:doah: . I have had it sit for 40 days with no issues at all and the battery was not disconnected during that time.

When the buggy needs batteries, the exide orbitals are gonna get the nod.
I've had two of those go bad on me within their one year birthday.

With an Optima if you hear it venting (discharging gas) you are hurting it. They should never be charged at a rate the causes them to vent.

I had an old red top that went 8 yrs and finally died . I have heard from those in the know that the optimas (red top) were built using virgin lead . The newer ones built in the last 5 years are using recycled lead and there fore the quality has went into the toilet . I was told They are now using good lead again but there are a whole bunch of bad ones out there that are being sold at cheap prices . You get what you pay for . I went and bought a 1200cca Odessey . My neighbor Scott races dwarf cars and they are one of his sponcers . I got mine for $150  . They have a 5 year warrenty . One of the big companies that my neighbor sell's batteries to swaps out all thier batteries (Odessey) every 3 years and I can buy the used ones for $100 . He's had them last 10 years . I run mine in my burb with a 100 amp alternator and it's awsome . Odessey even makes smaller batteries for Motorcycles .
