well i came back to visit my parents today and to drive my K5. i got in and she started up like a champ, i felt so proud hahah, but i heard a banging sound when i gave it gas. i killed the engine and took a look underneath to find out someone STOLE my drive line. i was fortunate to find it laying on the street a few blocks away. the thieves destroyed both of my u-joints. so it looks like i have some work to do on my vacation

So what was the banging sound? Without a driveshaft the vehicle just wouldn't move, there would be no noises being made because of the lack of a driveshaft. :deal:

Now if someone just unbolted the driveshaft from the axle and let it hang there from the t-case and you put it in gear then the driveshaft would be banging all around once you put the trans in gear.

Lets look at another possibility here. Now I cant see any reason somebody would steal your drive shaft and toss it three blocks away unless its somebody that doesn't like you much...Me having the little brother that I had would be thinking that he took the truck when I wasn't around and beat the crap out of it blowing the shaft out and gimping it back home in 4wd and parking it never saying a word about it.

my buddy back in the day actually had this happen... we go to get in his 71 Satellite and VROOM VROOM! :haha:

Sorry, but this was your "worst day"?

I wish a pair of U-joints and 15 minutes of my time was my "Worst day"...

I remember well the cold snowy day I awoke to find my '72 K5 sitting outside with NO DOORS on it,full of snow..it was february 14th 1984,I was living with my older brother at the time..in a neighbor "Hood" full of lowlife forigeners who's steal anything they could make off with....

I had to get to work ,so I had to drive it without doors in the 20 degree snow storm, and I didn't get more than a mile from "home" before a cop stops me and asks if I was "nuts"--I told him NO, I am not "nuts",some azzwipe STOLE MY DOORS!....
He asked ig I reported it,and I told him I did,but didn't have time to hanfg around waiting for a cop to come "imvestigate"..they would have just had a good laugh at my expense..they never did find out who took them, probably didn't even bother to try...I was glad to move out of that ghetto...

I had to get a ride to my parents house 70 miles away to dig my '69 GTO out of the drifts and re-register it,and drive that the rest of the winter--it was the most horrible vehicle I've had the displeasure of driving in snow except for maybe my 80 El-Camino with positraction--both would just slide sideways instead of going forward when you put them in drive and let your foot off the brakes!..I ended up having to buy some used studded snow tires and tire chauns in order to drive them when it snlowed out!..my K5 spent 2 months in a body shop while they tried to find two "useable" doors that weren't rotted to death, they had to use pickup doors and cut them down to fit it...

I'd be willing to bet, the 3-block away driveshaft was the other persons, had u-joints fail, and as they were walking arounf saw your truck and snagged your driveshaft to get themselves going again. I know someone locally here, on this board too that had their driveshaft unwillingly removed .

That's another possible scenario, but my initial thought was someone borrowed the truck broke the shaft and just brought back the truck and parked it.
I guess it's easy to find out, if there is damage to the yokes then someone broke his shaft off, if they were unbolted clean then they broke theirs and stole his.

Sarcasm and humor don't come over the forum very well.

The way I read it, he broke his driveshaft. And it was laying in the street and he had to walk back and get it. :haha:
