When I go through my motor I think I'm going to put a tach on my hood, thoughts on this idea? Anyone done this and what would be a donor for this?

I've been known to run gauges on the hood/cowl...

the obvious choice for factory looking would probably be an old GTO one... I like the hotrod look of standard pedestal cups too...

And yes you have options, depends if you want it to look funky or look thought out.
I like to have it in a scoop to help protect it from the elements, and cover the wiring.

Why? Not the smartest place IMO ...
why not, some people like it.
Personnaly I will only be doing it on my 67 firebird, because it's how it came from the factory, and one reason people did it is you can see it better while barreling down the strip without taking your eyes off the road.
I don't see a reason for it on a K5, but why not?

If your building a correct "60's" car, ok I get that. A square body? No, I don't get that. What's the reason? Looks? Then as I originally said, not the smartest place IMO.

for me, it's cheap convenience... huge price difference in electric and mechanical fuel pressure gauges...

And that would make sense, I would still spend the extra money though. Hood gauges on a square body would remind me of a carabiner on a ricer. A tach doesn't really fall under which is cheaper, thus my opinion :D

true...

the mechanical aspect can make ya want to do it for obvious safety concerns too in addition to cost if your inclined to run mechanicals.....

but I certainly get what your saying as far as being inside, usually much more functional and problemless in your dash than on your hood.. :haha:

personally I think it looks good on my CC... :pimp:

Thank you, feels awesome to have a drivable K5 again. I'm going to be putting on a cowl hood and have a filter that seals around the hood, but I want to have one from a buick gsx or a gto.

I like it, makes sense so you can just bearly take your eyes away from the road or rock etc. As far as looks... i don't see anybody here drivig a viper so i assume most of us are about function, saving money on our builds where we can, and Using what we build. would love to see a pic on what you do afterwords

I'll definitely post a pic of it when its done. This is a little ways out, but I will follow up with a pic. After being in my truck yesterday I did notice placement will be key, I'm not tall at all infact I'm short as hell so seeing a tach on my hood will be difficult :/ Guess I'll have to make a cage and mount the seats high.
