hey everyone, for a few years i have wanted to do this, i just never had the time or money to do it up. So i got myself a set of extra doors that were not completely rusted out. I knew i wanted a door that gave me protection, gave me something to lean on and also gave me enough meat on them to have soft doors made to keep me dry/warm. I still need to finish my passanger side, by just sanding a lil bondo and paint it and get some mirrors on them both. I just got my driver side done and put it on my truck. I love it so far! i haven't gone wheeling in it yet but just driving around the road with it is so nice for summer time.

This whole build was done with an angle grinder, my miller 180 welder and TIME so much time. It taught me how to weld really thin sheet metal tho! so i am feeling pretty good now with my sheet metal skills. I wanted to use as lil bondo as humanly possible on it so i spent extra time really welding, grinding welding and grinding. I had my friend who does motor cycle seats make me the soft cover and now its on my truck, just need mirrors and good to go. oh maybe a cup holder in it as well.

VERY nice workmanship! It's clean and precise. I am working on a similar project for my '72 K5 but using fiberglass doors. Yours looks much better. I'll let you know when I get mine done.

Well i updated it with some plexi glass windows, i figure these will be a lil more water tight, clearer in the rain and just look a lil better. I simply welded on some 3/4" angle iron to the door i created. I then welded on some 10-32 bolts on the angle iron and used some brass knobs to bolt it secure! I cant say this is an original idea. i did steal it from ffdustyw over on pirate from the dodge forums. Seems to work out well so far!

Looks great! I plan on doing the exact same thing one of these day.

So does the window have to come out to open the door?

I keep the factory handle and door locks on mine, just cut it off at the button but mine also have door poppers in them that my alarm can operate.

Wel the door latch is simply a zip tie that you pull. It uses the stock linkage inside. I like the idea of the door popper lil outta my $$ range but nice addition!

Did you just run a cable loop and hook it to the door release mechanism? It looks slick. Do they still lock? not like it really matters lol:whistle:

The zip tie/cable tie does go right through the door mechanisim inside the door, i just cut a hole on the backside.

The plexi works really well in the rain down the highway, i do have to re-do it though. The holes are too close to the edge of the plexi and are going to crack,, sooo back to making lil taller angle iron mounts and re-do the plexi.
