half ton 12 bolt

I just located a 78 half ton short box 4x4 and it has a 12 bolt rear axle, dana 44 front. I have yet to see a 12 bolt in any half ton and it is a 6 lug, can anyone tell me if that is rare or special order, maybe it's common in the 70's.

Its the rare Z71 option..









































No really they are the combo for those years. probably 3.08 gears.

12-bolt rear was the standard for 1/2 ton PU's, Burbs, Blazers through ca. 1980, when GM switched to the 10-bolt.

My '81 Jimmy came stock with a 12 bolt rear, but it was a factory 4 speed K5...

Thats pretty vague....if its got a good body, and decent driving manners, I'd say its a decent deal.
