Well today is great. Just broke an intake bolt off flush with the top of the intake.
It is the forward most bolt on the drivers side. Can I drive the truck with it broke like that or do I get to pull the intake off?

Scott?

Might be okay temporarily, but that is your antifreeze port. Don't want you to swallow it into the valley area. :(

I would fix it b4 driving it, imo

You'll need to see if it leaks under pressure, so let it get up to operating temp and see what happens.

If it starts leaking slowly, just throw a jug of water in the rig until you can properly fix it. At least that's what I'd attempt if I had to drive it.

Great. I am going to set it on fire if much more of this crap keeps happening.

Do you think that a pair of vise grips would get it out of there?
Is it OK to use a MAPP torch to heat the broken bolt after I remove the intake?

If its flush with the intake , probably just grip it with intake off . Torch is probably not neccessary .

Why did it break anyway ? Dirty threads , crossthreaded , overtorqued ?

As long as you don't have AC to deal with it should be pretty easy to take the intake off. Don't even have to unbolt the carb or TBI. Those shouldn't have but like 30 lbs of torque so they should unscrew reasonably easy. I'd try the easy out first then maybe weld a nut on to the top of it and try it that way. Cast intake or aluminum? Tip- Drill the easy out hole as large as possible.

Ok, here i am. Shouldn't be too hard to remove with the intake manifold off. Whatever you do don't try to use an EZ-out as if it breaks you're screwed. Just remove the intake and soak the bolt good with a penetrating oil of some sort then grab it with a pair of vise grips and remove. It would be a good idea to chase all the holes before you install new bolts.

Good, someone who knows what they're talking about showed up as requested...:haha:

If it is really stuck in there, you could also try ginding a couple flats on opposite sides of the bolt, then use a cresent wrench to back it out. That will also help a vice grip grab better if the cresent wrench doesn't work. Just make sure you cover the engine up real good so you don't spray bits of steel and grinding wheel all in the intake ports and lifter valley.

THE FIRST THING TO TRY- is to grind a grove in the top with a small cut off wheel or dremel. Something you can put a flat screw driver in and try unscrewing it. You might luck out.

I say use all these suggestions in the appropriate order.

x2. start with the least destructive. the less metal you remove from the bolt at first, the more options you'll have if the first thing you try doesn't work.

I am going to just remove the intake and PB Blaster the piss out of it.
At least that way I can fix the damn oil leak from the rear of the intake valley.

The reason it broke is because the last owner was a tard and over torqued every damn bolt on the truck. I even broke a few of the valve cover bolts last week.....

When you go to put the intake back on torque the bolts to 25 lbs. and go over them about 6 times or until it don't pull down anymore when being torqued.

I have all the other bolts out and the intake is broke free of its seal....

No I can't get the damn thing off due to the broken bolt in the one hole. My patience has worn very thin.....beer then back to work.

Is everyone else having fun yet?:(
