Within the next 2-3 days if not tonight yet, I'll be buying a hand held tuner of some sort. right now I'm looking at the Diablosport Intune
http://www.autoanything.com/performance-chips/diablosport-intune-i-1000-tuner
I don't think I need the trinity...? Not sure really what the difference is except more memory and digital gauges...

But really they're the only ones ive looked at.... so:dunno:
Is there better ones or is it pretty much all the same?

I want to use it on my 01 Sierra 4.8 AND my 08 Yukon denali 6.2.

The AND is the problem. They are good for one rig only.

looks like ill have to get the trinity then:doah: it says you can do multiple trucks in the description.....

why do they only do 1.....? don't you put it in, install tune, and take it back out?

I read the manual and I get it now:doah: trinity it is...... but ill have to wait since I've only got $350 towards it at the moment:frown1:

Just a thought, but honestly, these canned tunes aren't really going to give you that much. They tend to be conservative and can't compensate for the way your individual vehicle runs. For 600, you could get a real engine/transmission dyno tune from a shop and still have money left over to buy a nice diagnostic scanner. The results you'd get from that would be superior to any hand held. On gas trucks, you just don't see big gains from handheld tuners.

The reason most tuners are setup to only allow use on one vehicle is for cost purposes. It prevents one guy or a shop from buying one tuner for $400 and then charging 20 different people $200 each to tune their vehicle, or on the other hand keeps 3-4 buddies from going in together and buying just one to do all of their vehicles. Now I do believe that there are some functions on some tuners that you can use on different vehicles such as if it can read diagnostic codes, but in general you can only "tune" one vehicle.

yeah I read up on it better.... sucks but oh well... im going to get the Intune for my 01 and run the box tune for a bit... then play with the custom tune capability. id like to do a dyno tune eventually but theres only 1 around here and they're expensive cause they know it from what I hear. it just needs something because of the CAI and exhaust I put on. the denali is stock and fine for now... actually does pretty decent on the highway (18-20) if I drive it right.

in my reading I heard that you can pay an extra fee for a second vehicle tune license from diablo. I didn't look into it though:dunno:

I have more planned for the sierra so ill wait on the $$$ tune.
eventually I want to do a cam and im looking into a diy salvage parts turbo setup I seen in hotrod with a mild boost set up for lower range 1500-4000. in the info gathering stage and started a parts list. but the cam/turbo deal will be a year or so. things may change by then(like ownership:rolleyes:) so im going the cheaper route for now.

box tune may not be perfect..... But WHAT an improvement:eek1: and that's just on the 87 octane tune:waytogo:

the diablo intune sofar is super simple and easy to use.... takes forever to update when you hook it to the laptop the first time though... like 30-45 min. tuning the truck took like 5 though

I have an older DiabloSport Predator for my Grand Prix GXP. The canned tunes were OK but I highly recommend a custom tune by DiabLew (http://www.diablewtune.com/) For 145$ you get a custom tune and adjustments for 1 year. He will send you instructions and you data log the parameters he specifies and email them to him and he sends you a custom tune back over email. Then you data log again and you get a new tune until you are happy. Wow did his tunes make a difference over the canned tunes. Definitely worth the money and he is great to deal with. He only does GM vehicles and he knows them and the tunes well. While it is not as good as a dyno tune it is much better than the generic canned tunes especially when you start to modify the vehicle by adding intake exhaust etc.

ill save the money for now... it's ok as is... as mentioned I want to do a dyno tune later after some other planned mods.... Another member on here told me about that guy too so i went to his site. Looks like a very good plan for the wifes denali when i tune hers for sure:thumb:

sounds like the extra $145 might be worth it.... Mainly interested in it for MPG for right now though so:dunno: will it pay for its self really. Im still debating how far and what direction i want to go with my truck.

already a world of difference but i do feel it can be improved on

Custom tune till blow out that can tune, if the tuner is any good. If not, well. For anything other than a drag car, dyno tunes are good for final numbers only. Drivability is not there when you only get to tune part of the fuel and spark.... Unless you drive everywhere wide open, never below 3000 rpm and never get in and out of the throttle. LOL

Thing is, how much do you have in this so far? How far do you want to go with it?

I charge $300 for a lifetime custom tune. Now if you put in a huge cam or build a stroker. Thats a little different. Minor changes get done for free. You don't have to buy a handheld, then a custom tune. I can send a handheld with a core deposit. You tune, data log, email me log, I verify, adjust if needed, resend tune, you download, burn in tune and data log. Once good you send back handheld and get deposit back. Or you can ship the ECM. Once read I always have the correct base file so if changes are needed I can ship a second ECM and you ship your back.

Gen 3 GM ECM has some tricks on enabled to gain mileage. There is actually a lean cruise option that has to be tuned in. Timing sucks stock for mileage and power. O2s switch lazy. On and on.

Where I am getting with this is all tuners have their ups and downs. Some just have a $$$ hole that never fills up but you do not see that until you are almost 1k into a stock tune.
